I'm doing great. Kimberly, how about yourself?
I am fine, and I know from past shows that we've done together, I have learned so much from you, but nothing sparks my interest more than this point, hormone.
So tell us a little bit... So I know I'm so happy that you're joining us once again, and perhaps a little bit about your background, if that those don't know about you. Well, wonderful, I speak very regularly at mother's market, so if you're listening to me, you may very well have seen me there at a seminar, and those are always up on the mother's dot com website, so they have a nice little section now we can look up seminars online, and then I also speak all across the country on different health subjects, so I love to be able to share that word of good health out there. Well, it shows and your passion for... This is wonderful. We love it.
Today we're talking about beauty, and it's sort of the beauty beyond Botox and plastic surgery... Right, absolutely.
Oh, it's only as natural as women that we wanna stay young and youth-looking and of course, vibrant as we all age gracefully or we want to anyway.
So products and opinions, and that's of course why you're here, so you're gonna help us work it out and tell us, Valerie, how can we support healthy aging for ourselves?
Well, we can do a couple of things. Fighting inflammation is a great way to support healthy aging, inflammation adds to the aging process kind of accelerates it, we all have this internal clock and it moves at different paces for different people, we all know people who look either much younger or older than they actually are, that's the difference between the calendar clock and this internal metabolic clock, so some of the foods that really accelerate our aging process are the Soda Pop, Sugar, corn, haruhi fruit, tos corn syrup, all the ground up flower in our food supply as opposed to whole grain, the oils like hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, deep fried foods, artificial sweeteners, lots of coffee, a little bit of coffees, okay, but too much coffee is a problem, and pasteurized milk is not nearly as good for us as the raw milk used to be, so all these things kind of accelerate the aging process and have some problems for us in the food supply.
On the other hand, there are lots of good guys that will slow the aging process, those would include our organic vegetables and fruits, the good fats, that might sound like a strange term to some people, good fast omega-3 essential fatty acids from fish and flexed, olive oil has very beneficial fats for us, avocados, seeds and nuts, and even coconut oil, if it's organic and extra virgin, it's wonderful, and they sell it in the health food stores, it's a great cooking oil, it's great to rub on your skin for dry... Cracking skin for aging skin. It's a wonderful moisturizer for skin as well.
Well, this sounds good, and I'm taking furious notes here as you're telling me about the foods that definitely slow down that aging process, let's talk a little bit about... Do you have any recipes or things that we can talk to that are simple, I know this day and age, it's crazy with what working moms and kids and all of that balance... You know what I do a lot of times is... My new definition of fast food is I'll get some healthy things from the deli of a health food store, I'll get their Greek salad with his tummy tomatoes and things like that, I'll get some chicken salad or egg salad or salmon salad as something to just keep in the refrigerator by one of those roasted chickens, take all the meat off it, keep that in zilog, you can throw it on a salad real easily because like everyone else, I'm in a hurry to... For a good substitute for chicken nuggets, you can get one of those already roasted chickens, put a little bit of olive oil in a pan with some parmesan cheese, and then really exciting, you get a nice little crunchy crust without all the flower and without all the bad oils that you get from deep fried, so pretty eye, most of the time for dinner, I'm throwing a piece of chicken or fish in the oven and making a little olive oil sauce, olive oil with lemon and capers for a because squeezing Orange in there and putting partly for an orange sauce, doing some state mushrooms or onions or scallions or my favorite herbs a little deal or tarragon in their delicious, easy, fast five-minute sauce with all of oil, that adds healthier food and a taste as well. So those are some of the quick things I do, I make myself a little eggs or one for breakfast, I have some hard-boiled days in the refrigerator if I need a quick snack, cottage cheese, things like that, so I try to get the healthy food and it's close to its natural state as I can find it. That's what I wanna be putting into my mouth... That's excellent, and it's true because it's all about, again, that balance and it's just having some things easy to grab, and I know in the past, we've talked about how you just put your fruits and vegetables and a little container in that way, information on a... Yeah, it's really easy, and the better natural sweetener is the stevia much than the sugar and corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. I like the flavored Stevie drops, they taste the best, and then here's some good news, you can have some nice red wine at night, that's a good news, so Pointe soda there, but I... We need to get a little bit of good quality protein in with every meal, so vegetarians and vegans just need to make sure they're getting an adequate supply of plant protein, and then we also wanna go switch away from flower grain and go to whole organic sprouted grain products, I know, you know what, there is something that people are talking a lot about right now kind of getting the buzz and that is, again, getting away from that flower and all of the... What is the name of that? I'm sorry about this 'cause I'm thinking off the topic right now, it's looking freeholder process away from wheat, and in particular because one of the articles I read on gluten recently said that if you're not having a problem with it yet, it's only a matter of time.
Oh really?
So it kinda gums up the works in our intestinal track, it makes things hard to absorb, and then people develop severe gluten intolerance like celiac disease.
Okay, so that's what we witnessing almost all of us would feel better getting away from drinking milk and getting away from eating wheat... Wow.
Two things that were taught to consume with every meal from the time where six months old on. So it's really... Most of us have developed sensitivities to these because of the over-consumption, and if we get away from those and find substitutes, we do much better... Oh my gosh, well, you're full of information and good things to start doing right now, especially if you're a mom and have kids and you wanna get them on the right track. You know what, thank you so much because all of your information, Valerie, is always so informative and interesting, so we are gonna have more tips on this fabulous fountain of youth and more from nutritional expert, Valery Hall in just a moment. We'll be right back, department, or welcome back to the mother's radio show, and we wanna take this time to remind you that if you missed any portion of today's show, you can download the podcast from our website, mother's market dot com, click the link for radio podcast and listen to our past shows, but you can always download our Healthy Recipes and money savings coupons, all available at mother's market dot com. And now, back to our interview with nutritional consultant, Valerie Hall, boys, so interesting. Aging, of course, is a natural part of life, even though we don't wanna admit that it doesn't mean we have to like it, of course, but let's keep talking about the changes that we can make in our diet and lifestyle to get the results that we want.
Well, we talked about the food, and I found a couple of supplements and a couple of topical creams that I think have taken 10 years off of me in the last couple of years since I found the most so excited to eat right now, it's so excited about them, the first one is a supplement, it's called hyaluronic acid, there's a wonderful brand that's at mothers and elsewhere, called Best hyaluronic acid by doctor's best vitamins. hilarion is a nutrient that pulls water into the skin, it absorbs about 3000 times its own weight in water, so not only does it hydrate, but it pumps up the wrinkles... Oh, it is absolutely phenomenal. I've noticed a big difference around my mouth, the little wrinkles about my lip, just about disappear, the lines that come down from the nose or much more shallow above and below the eyes firmer, neck looks better, arms look better. Everything was both with the high Alaric acid, it has some other fantastic benefits too, it's really good for the joints, it pulls water into the fluids or joint floats in, also water into the cartilage and a cushion of water in between the joint structures.
So it's excellent for anybody who's got grinding and popping in the joints, people who have deteriorating cartilage and deteriorating discs in their back, it pulls a nice... It'll cushion in there, so it really helps with the comfort...
I'm surprised and I have to interject in. It would be perfect for athletes, especially on the men, but yeah, I really never heard of Kinases, a wonderful nutrient out there for joints and for skin, I saw a difference in my skin the very first day that I took it, this complex by doctors, best the best Hilary acid has Collage and in it as well, and contrite, the conduit pulls water into cartilage College and rebuilds our college instructors, both within the joints and the skin. In fact, I was sitting on a plane recently next to a plastic surgeon, and he told me that the wrinkle process with the body is losing of hyaluronic acid collagen, so here we can add those two things in with one supplement, it's really easy to take two pills in the morning with water, it can be done with or without food, you need to drink a bunch of water so that it pulls it in. One of the most common questions I get asked about this is, does it cause water retention? No, it does not, it just re-distributes water into the right places in the body, pulling it into joints and skin, so it's fantastic for wrinkles, so Supplement-wise, that gets my number one choice, it can really turn back the clock. Number two choice as a supplement is our wonderful omega-3 fish oils, this is a difference you can feel within a couple of days on your skin, your skin will feel smoother and softer over time, it really helps with the elasticity of skin and the skin health in general, it takes about three months to start incorporating the new good nutrients into your cell walls, we replaced many cell walls every three months, so about three months of use, and you've really changed the profile of what those are built out of.
So the omega 3 fish oils, I love the ones by Nordic Naturals, very excellent quality, their fruit flavored and never smell or taste fishy, so they're very, very nice and wonderful also for brain and heart and joints and energy, so I love those fish oils, but they're a difference, you can really feel and see in the skin, your hair will also look Shiner as a nice luster to the hair.
You are a girl's best friend.
And then my third one that I recommend, my third and final one I'm gonna talk about today for a supplement, it's called Silica, and I like the ionic silica by Aidan, liquid minerals is excellent, or if you'd prefer a pill, bios is a really good one in a pill, but also also makes a liquid, but I'm not wild about the taste, I like the Aidan taste, it doesn't have a taste, but the silica is a mineral that builds new collagen in the body, it's a building block for college in production.
So three months after I started using it, I had an inch of new hair growth on my head, so all kinds of hair thicknesses come back, her strength, it's been fantastic for my hair, fingernails grow and grow, they don't break very easily, so it's really helped their strength I don't get hangs on the cuticles on my face, the silica has tightened the College and Matrix, so my pores are smaller, looks much more refined, and that I started noticing in six to nine months, it wasn't overnight, but after a couple of months, I saw a real difference in the skin with that, so silica also is good for college and structures in the joints inside of the bone, the arteries, so if you're bruising easily, it strengthens those little capillaries as well, and has all kinds of benefits throughout the body, anywhere that collagen is needed.
Be patient with the hair because that's kind of an extra... That's when we have extra College and we throw it out as new hair growth, it goes to the more important parts of the body, first the bones that joints, the skin, then when we have extra, it comes out as a new hair growth.
Wow. Again, these three miracles, I am gonna make sure I run right out the wagon a get these silicone. I recommend one to three doses daily, it doesn't taste like much of anything, so in your water is fine if you're using the liquid one or take the pills as directed, and then the silica in the liquid can also be used as a topical treatment on Skin for skin cuts and scrapes, it helps heal them without the big scars that they might otherwise leave, and also for burns, sunburn burn on the stove of hot water or even biting into something too hot and burning your mouth, so I go take the pain out right away and really help the healing process.
We have some fantastic topical creams too out there, and let me tell you about what the things that are in there that are really making a difference.
A couple of years ago, Dr. period, who many of you might have seen on PBS, some wrote some books and did some things on public broadcasting about the anti-oxidants he uses in his skin creams, and now these are widely available, so in the skin creams, alpha-lope acid in the skin creams is really good for puffins, swelling and inflammation. This nutrient in the creams is great for puffins under the eyes, esters in the skin creams is a fat-soluble vitamin C, It's very healing and anti-inflammatory, it's particularly good for redness, some people just have a reddish complexion, it'll help to take down that redness or Rosacea or act me or something like that. Helps to take the redness down.
Next one on my list is M-A-E, and Mae in the skin creams is an anti-oxidant that is sometimes known as a face lift in a jar or... Good, does that sound?
That's really good. I know it tight the skin in about 20 minutes, and the effects last around 24 hours... Oh my gosh, D-M-A-E-D-M-A-E. and then there's that high ironic acid that we talked about earlier as a supplement, you can also get it in a skin cream and that again, plump up the wrinkles by pulling the water into the scan and pumping things up, so very smoothing for skin co-210 in those creams for the skin really is helpful for fine lines and wrinkles, one of my favorite lines that they carry there in the mother's market and elsewhere is called dermal, very clean and pure, very inexpensive, particularly when you compare it to those brand names in the drug in the department store, those cost a fortune, but this is very reasonably priced, 20 to 30 for a nice couple of months supply, they have one called DMA esters and alpha-opole acid combination, and they have that in a thin serum that soaks in or thicker moisturizing creams, and then they also have the hyaluronic acid in those forms as well, both a thin serum or a thicker moisturizing cream.
So those are my two favorites. I use both of those together. I use the DME and the alpha Poli acid and stereo around my eyes and around my mouth and on my neck, and then I go afterwards of a couple of minutes afterwards when it's dried in there and use the high Leoni acid and put that everywhere on my face and neck. And it just makes such a difference. A fun thing to do when you get... When you buy these is do half of your face get out of the shower and just put them on half of your face and wait a half an hour and look at the difference in the inside and the other is the difference... You can see right away the very first time you use them, you don't have to wait a month or two... No one wants to wait a month or two to look better, we wanna look better right away right now, I was really motivated to try these things a few years ago, when I had my 30-year high school reunion, I said, What can I do? And I was so happy with the results that I wrote a seminar about it to you, Well, this is better than Botox any day, right?
Absolutely.
Botox weakens things. It kills it. I have some concerns, it's a toxin, it's talismans modules, and they make that out of an tombs, the nerves and Homs, the muscles. I weekends them.
Okay, so while we're giving tips about being a woman, and of course, we can't forget about this hormone balance that we have to deal with, and it's such a challenge for so many women, are there supplements that help the natural balance of our hormone... Terrific supplement that I have discovered, it is by a company called feminists, and it's a special kind of an herb called Mara, and they used one called Macao, which is the only one with clinical studies behind it, and it's tremendously helpful for all kinds of symptoms. They do three different versions. One is for younger women with PMS-type symptoms, the other one is for just before menopause, what they call pre-menopause or Peri menopause, and the other one is for after menopause, this herb balances all of our endocrine system, it balances our sex hormones, it balances adrenal hormones, thyroid hormones and pituitary hormones, so this is not something that adds estrogens to the system like so many others do, but this is something that is a, what they call an adaptive, it adapts to what your body needs and helps to dial everything into the right levels.
Menopause... Go ahead, I'm sorry, you know what a question about though, getting back to that feminists and a lot of women that are hormonal are going through the beginning stage is more probably the end part of the menstrual have problems with thyroid, and I heard you just mention that but gaining weight, losing weight, so the balance... Does that feminists have anything... It does help tremendously with keeping your weight under control, that was shown in the studies as well, I love the studies, all the heavy hitters out there in the natural world for women's doctors recommend this particular product of feminist Makoto, that includes Oprah's doctor, Dr. Christian Northrup, and also Dr. torus on is a wonderful author, so both of them recommend this particular brand and I have found wonderful results with this, so this... So the first one for PMs, erratic periods when you're younger or missing periods for months at a time when you're younger, this would be an excellent one for them, also very beneficial for PMs is minimizing that sugar intake, which is very disruptive for us, and taking some nice support supplements like the omega-3 fish oils and the magnesium, which relaxes cramping for the menstrual cycle.
So those two things can revolutionize a painful menstrual cycle, if you're taking the magnesium and the omega 3 fish oils along with that wonderful feminists, and the one for the younger women is called make harmony. The next one is for the Peri menopause or pre-menopausal stage, menopause itself is defined for not by not having a menstrual cycle for at least 12 months, so before that, if you're having erratic cycles, then that is called perimenopausal Peri menopause. A lot of things start to happen, everything from hot flashes and night sweats, to mood swings and difficulty concentration and heart palpitations, all of those might be perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, none of which we want... No, absolutely not.
So this, I love this mock-a-go because it helps 83% of the women who take it within a couple of weeks, their hot flashes and night sweats go away, everything gets balanced out so well in the body as our ovaries start slowing down with their estrogen production... Adrenal glands are actually supposed to pick up their estrogen production, who knew those guys can make estrogen too, so they're supposed to be a nice balance that occurs, a shift of what is producing everything, but in this country, our adrenal glands are so fatigued by the time we hit 50 that they're not up to the task. The things that wear our adrenals out or stress itself, caffeine and sugar, most of us have been exposed to plenty of that by the time we had 50 and I tentatively body... I know that's everybody. So American women have horrible hot flashes in Japan, they don't even have a word for hot flash, until we started exporting our American diet over... Now, I'm sure they're starting to experience that, but so interesting that... So the maratha perimenopausal formula by the famine essence is called Marca life Macola. That one is fantastic.
All of these are taken, two in the morning and two in the evening, their capsules, and then you take a one-week break every two months, so all those directions are right on the label, I've had terrific results with this... I wait, waited actually, to write my seminar women's health until I had some personal experience with this, so people have been asking me, and that's the way I do all my seminars, is I like to try everything out. See what really works.
So I had been doing this hot flashing for about nine months, and I tried a bunch of the estrogenic herbs and the progesterone creams and things could never really get a handle on it, and then I learned about the MOCA and I started taking this Macao by reminiscence within three days, my hot flashes were completely gone, and I mean, I was flashing every 20 minutes, I was waking up 10 times a night with night sweats... It was no fun.
Right, and I haven't had a hot flash sense, it's been nine months since I've been on this product and I haven't had a single hot flash good or I am thrilled to it really to back the hormonal clock on us by four or five years. Also, as our estrogen levels decline, we're much more at risk for cardiovascular disease and bone problems, so by keeping those things balanced out by supporting the adrenal glands, this really helps us in general, just to keep balance and keep better health throughout our lives.
So after menopause, the one-to-take is called MOOSE by feminists, and so even if you don't have ovaries at all, then you can still get some benefit because it's gonna support the adrenal glands and its production of estrogen, anyone who wants to keep their estrogen suppressed.
So people who have fought cancer, breast cancer, and so forth, should not take these products because they will balance out the estrogen again, so that's one group that these are not for, but for the rest of us is just a wonderful thing. And then the other question I get a lot about this is what if I'm on thyroid medication, this is going to help the thyroid to regain some of its function, so if you're on medication, the doctor will be testing you regularly if those levels go up, then he can cut the prescription dose so that you're taking less and less of the medication since your own thyroid is behaving better.
Wow, well, I am definitely gonna keep in touch with you and hopefully we can have you back soon, so... Valerie, thank you for your time. I already feel better ironing, I appreciate your knowledge, and we will have you back on again to... In the meantime though, I wanna make sure that you can also get more information on Valerie on her website, and I believe you can ask questions at you... Yes, you can email me through there or you can request some of my papers on any health subject, I also have DVDS available there in my schedule of advance, I'm a frequent speaker at mothers and all across the country. What a spice up your next meal try distillation recipe.
This recipe is for an organic artichoke appetizer, you're going to need as ingredients for whole organic artichokes cut into quarters, one cup, organic lemon juice, two tablespoons capers, two tablespoons garlic, one half teaspoon, white pepper and one half teaspoon chilly powder. Your first step is to place one inch of water in a large sopot you add your Quarterdeck to the steamer basket in the pot and bring water to a boil. When you have your artichokes quarter, you wanna make sure that you remove those tough outer layers and also the choke, which is in the center of the artichoke, so that after you steam them, they're ready to go into your Maronite, cover the pod and summer for approximately 20 minutes in a separate bowl, combined a lemon juice capers and spices, when the artichokes are tender removed from heat and drain the water, you've placed the artichokes in the marinade, and this can be served either warm or called Organic artichoke appetizer by mother's Marketing kitchen. And this serves about four people for an advertised Mark, thanks for listening to the mother's market radio show and for shopping at mother's market.
