Hello, I'm Kimberly King, and welcome to the mother's market radio show, a show dedicated to the Truth, Beauty and Goodness of the human condition. On today's show, we're going to discuss our blood sugar, it seems to control everything from weight gain and loss to our appetite, and Dr. Michael Murray has an exciting new breakthrough he wants to share with us.
Plus, we'll tell you what's new at mother's market as we approach the holiday season and give you a chance to win a 100 gift card. So listen carefully to the code word this week, but first up, we've got a healthy appetite for great information on this show, and now we're gonna give you some information on how to regulate your blood sugar and help you control the way you eat.
So here to help us do that is Dr. Michael Murray. Dr. Murray is one of the leading authorities on natural medicine, he's a graduate faculty member and serves on the board of trustees on Aster University in Seattle. He's authored almost 30 books, and over the past 20 years, has compiled a massive database of original scientific studies, he's gonna help us understand how we can have a healthy mindset for life-long weight control. And we welcome into mother's market radio show, Dr. Mary, how are you?
I'm doing fantastic. Thank you so much.
Thank you, and thanks again for being here. And I wanna talk a little bit about your work before we flow right into our blood sugar... Well, sure, I'm an naturopathic position, and it occurred to me as I was going through my educational process that if natural medicine is based upon truth, it should stand up to scientific investigation, so I dedicated in my life to collecting research articles and translating them to a form that people can really appreciate. I've written over 30 books as well as been instrumental in bringing many safe and effective products in North America, virtually all the standardized verbal extracts, St John's wort, Bill Berry, so Amato, nutritional compounds like glucosamine sulfate. We'll be talking about PX today, which I think is the most important natural product in North America today, but I'm very passionate about talking about the safety and efficacy of natural products.
Fascinating, and we are gonna talk a lot about that, that the big issue in health concern is also, besides controlling appetite is the concern and high blood sugar.
Yeah, well, blood sugar issues are a major problem in our society, a lot of it had has to do with diet, we have about probably about 65 to 80 million Americans with blood sugar disorders, about 20 million people have type 2 diabetes. We have about 40 million people that have pre-diabetes, meaning their blood see levels are too high, but they're not quite to the level of being diabetic, and then we have the people with hypoglycemia, we've got gestational diabetes, diabetes of pregnancy, and a number of other blood sugar issues, how do you know if you have high blood sugar... Well, going in and seeing your doctor and getting a blood test is something that should be done as part of your regular physical... We know that blood sugar issues, particularly type 2 diabetes in parallel, obesity, when we start gaining weight, particularly around our abdomen, collectively, these fat cells start to act like a tumor in what the... That Hale end up doing a secreting compounds that blocked the action of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is very important in regulating blood sugar levels when we eat a sugar meal or arbitrate meal, our blood sugar levels will go up, that'll cause our pancreas to release this hormone insulin, insulin binds to sell throughout the body, and that leads to opening up of channels that allows glucose to enter that cell, if we develop insulin resistance, then insults not able to do its job, and Type 2 diabetes is a classic example of an insulin-resistant state, but there's a lesser severe blood sugar issues that really are huge problems in the United States, just even mild insulin resistance is a huge problem leading to a loss of ability to control your appetite, a leading to loss of ability to control your portion size, leading to being on what we term the blood sugar roller coaster, and that makes it very difficult to achieve and maintain your ideal body weight, and it kinda sets the stage for the progression of insulin resistance to full-fledged type two diabetes.
It's fascinating, and I know American, it's just... We really are on a blood sugar roller coaster. This seems like it's such a broad question, but what is the difference between hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia Type 1 and Type 2?
Okay, well, hypoglycemia refers to blood sugar level below normal, most often, this is a reaction to a high sugar meal, when you eat a high sugar meal, your blood-see levels will go spiking way high and then they'll come crashing down, and sometimes they'll crash down below normal and people will experience headaches, nervousness, sweaty hands and feed, erasing hard heart palpitations, these are just some of the symptoms that are linked to is to hypoglycemia, but we've seen those symptoms pop up even in people who have blood sugar levels that aren't at that level of being hypoglycemic, but they are simply experiencing a rapid drop in blood sugar, now, hyperglycemia refers to most of and diabetes, and there are two forms of diabetes, type 1 diabetes is insulin-dependent diabetes. We used to call this juvenile onset diabetes, this is a less common form, it's associated with an autoimmune reaction where the insulin-producing cells and the pancreas get destroyed, and so these people require daily shots of insulin to keep their blood sugar levels under control. Type 2 diabetes is far more common, about 90% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes, and it's characterized by elevations and blood sugar, it's kind of a silent situation, people really don't have a lot of symptoms until later on, Type 2 Diabetes is associated with some very severe complications, a shorter life, increased risk of developing cancer and heart disease, a blind... The nerve damage, kidney damage, its leading cause of blind is leading cause of kidney failure. And dialysis in America, it's a huge, huge problem. As I said earlier, it's closely linked to being overweight and not necessarily obese, we've seen very thin people have insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes because their percentage of body fat is too high, so don't be misled by your weight all the time because what's more important is how much fat you have on your body is particularly around the waist, because these fat cells are really metabolically active, and we found that anybody that has a larger waste to hip ratio, they're carrying a little extra weight around that abdomen, they're on a week called the blood sugar roller coaster, and we've monitored people's blood sugar levels over a 24-hour period, and we found that virtually everyone that's overweight is on this blood sugar roller coaster, and that makes it virtually impossible for them to really get their appetite under control and effectively lose weight. Until that blood sugar becomes more stabilized, and that's a secret of our program, we've developed a weight loss program called Hunger-Free forever, it's really an offshoot of our program for how to prevent and treat diabetes with natural medicine. These are both titles of books that I co-authored with Dr. Michael lion and we found that utilizing our Program, which the centerpiece is a special dietary fiber matrix called PG-X, this is the real deal, this is kind of the holy grail for helping people get their blood sugar levels under control, get their appetite under control and achieve and maintain their ideal body weight.
Well, this is fascinating, and is it sort of basically kinda going called Turkey, because with the O blood sugar really is, that's the hardest thing, and it's an American, it... Sugar is in everything.
Yeah, it is. And what they found with This PIs really an interesting history, most people that are familiar with dieting and trying to lose weight have probably heard of the glycemic index, this is a numerical value that's assigned to food to indicate its effects on our blood sugar levels, and it was developed by a team of researchers at the University of Toronto, and these researchers also started looking at a dietary fiber matrix and show that it would reduce the glycemic index of any food or any meal by 35% to 70%, and we started utilizing this dietary fiber matrix, between and PG, about nine years ago, when we were researching for our book on diabetes, and lo and behold, we were not only able to reverse Type 2 diabetes and many people, but they told us that for the first time in their lives, they knew what it felt like to feel satisfied, to not feel hungry all the time and not have to succumb to sugar cravings, and so they started utilizing the PG and they basically started losing weight nearly effortlessly. Anyone who's ever tried to lose weight knows that it's a struggle and it's a struggle because you're fighting your physiology, your body and brain wants to keep that fat on, so how do you reverse that physiology? Well, you have to increase the sensitivity of the cells throughout the body to the hormone insulin PX does that, you have to have a sense of satiety, a sense of fullness, and you have to reduce portion size and calorie intake. PDX is able to do that.
PDX is safe, we've done extensive safety studies, we know it's effective, we've done not only our own clinical work and over 500 patients, but it's also been the subject of over some very well-designed double-blind placebo-controlled trial is kind of the gold standard and research, so it's safe. It's very effective. I know there's a lot of hype out there with weight loss products, this is different, this is a tool that allows people to make the changes in their diet and the lifestyle that they know they need to make, and you're right, it's hard for people to quit cold turkey, unless they're using PDX.
Fascinating, and I really haven't heard that before, and so I, as an American and with the sugar and everything, I'm kinda curious too, how much of this is hereditary of how much of this is poor eating habits, and as you keep mentioning this blood sugar roller coaster, and also, does exercise and sleep have anything to do with this... Controlling our blood sugar levels.
Absolutely. Sleep, exercise, lifestyle. Very, very important stress.
To answer your first question, Are genetics involved?
Absolutely. But it's not a death sentence. We can look at the payment Indians as an example, the team Indians and of Arizona, have a very high rate of diabetes and obesity, I think obesity rate is close to 80% across the border in Mexico, the pain, same genetic background, same genetic pool, their obesity rate is about 4%. What's the difference? Well, diet and lifestyle.
So the answer is, what is leading to this epidemic is diet and lifestyle, but we all share some common genetics, and we all share a common gene that we call the 30 gene, it's really designed to help fuel obesity, this gene was responsible for helping us survive famines, for thousands and thousands of years, what it is, it's a mechanism that allows us to over-consume calories when food is plentiful, so that we can survive when food is scarce. Well, that's why when we start overeating, it's kind of a snowball effect because it kicks in this gene that leads to what I've been talking about, insulin resistance and loss of ability to control your appetite and your blood sugar levels. Well, fascinating. We are gonna be right back. Very interesting stuff from Dr. Murray, and right now we're gonna take a quick break. When we returned, Dr. Murray will give us his thoughts on natural products that can help us up, we will be right now, if you've ever enjoyed the delicious food inside our kitchen, you may have tried this tasty dish, now you can make it yourself, and this recipe is for as vegetarian chili in Seri people, the ingredients are three cups kidney being sorted in rinsed one upgraded Zeke on cup-graded carrots, one half cup Mendon, one quarter cup, min cilantro, 28 ounces of can tomato sauce, 6 ounces of canned tomato paste, one cup water, one tablespoon garlic powder. two tablespoons, chilli powder, one tablespoon basal, one quarter cup parsley, one tablespoon, Tamara soy sauce, one cup, textured vegetable protein, or also called TVP.

And now, back to our interview with Dr. Michael MURI, we were talking about controlling our appetite, eating smart, so let's talking about... Keep talking about the changes we can make in our diet and lifestyle to keep the results that we want.
Are there any nutritional supplements that you can recommend Dr. Murray, to help control and stabilize blood sugar levels, well, the most important natural product, and that goal is PG, PG is short for polycyclic. This is a very unique dietary fiber that has an unparalleled ability to bind water, so when you ingest it binds about 600 times its weight in water, that's very important because it has this mechanical effect of making you feel full, so that's very important in reducing the amount of food that you consume, and that's very important in reducing your caloric intake, beyond that, it slows down gastric camp in giving your body a chance to process sugar, and it also leads to a reduction in the levels of compounds to tell your brain to eat and at the same time, it increases the levels of compounds that tell your brain that you're satisfied, so it has just this tremendous comprehensive effect in helping get it in the core issues as to why people overeat, why they are on the blood sugar roller coaster and why they fail to achieve and maintain their ideal body weight, what kind of forms and what types does PDX come in, and how much do you need to take to get the best text is available as capsules in granules and as part of the meal replacement formula. It doesn't really matter which form you use, but to get this, the greatest effect, you just have to take TX at every meal. Many people find it most convenient to use the capsule, these are soft Ellen capsules. They're very easy to swallow. Generally, we recommend starting off with two capsules before meals, and all this is available at mother's market, we have great information to guide people and how to utilize PX, they can also go to the website PGD Com that we provide. In every product that contains PG, kind of an overview of how to use it. The keys are to take it at every meal and take a sufficient dose, now, the sufficient dose part that really depends upon a person's size and how they react to the PX, most people, two capsules before a meal, that's fine, but if you have someone that's quite large, maybe a person is weighing over 250 pounds or so, two capsules isn't gonna put much of a dent in their appetite, I may need to take four or even six capsules to feel that sense of fullness, and when they get into the higher dosages, that's where the granules really come into effect, because sometimes it's not that convenient to be taken, a lot of capsules, and some people don't like to take capsules anyway, so we have a granulated form and you just mix that in with water, doesn't have any taste. So it's just an easy way to get the effective dose, and then for people looking for a meal replacement or these are basically was drink mixes. We have one that has a high quality protein, it has a medium chain triglyceride, which amp up the metabolism as well as the PG, and we recommend using the weight loss drink mix at least for one meal a day and maybe even for a mid-afternoon or late evening snack and just fantastic to stabilize your blood sugar and give you that sense of fullness.
Well, that's great. And that sounds like it's really easy to use. Are there any other nutritional supplements that you recommend to help control the blood sugar and for overall health? Besides that, PDX.
Yeah, I think there are three key supplements that I always recommend just for general health, and these will contain compounds and are very useful in not only promoting general health and also stabilizing your blood sugar levels, for example, a high potency, multiple vitamin and mineral formula is very important to provide the nutritional support for cells throughout your body, and it should contain sufficient levels of some nutrients that are very important for the action of insulate B6, magnesium, manganese and chromium, these nutrients in particular are very important for the action of insulin. So a deficiency of them can lead to a faulty blood sugar control, I also recommend taking some of these green frothy, Super Green who is like corals, Birla, alfalfa, we grass, barley grass chews. Natural factors has a great product called enriching grains that I like to recommend 'cause it tastes great, and it's just a great way to flood your body with these important photochemical anti-oxidants, and lastly, everybody should be on a good high quality pharmaceutical-grade fish or... Those are some of the key things and people have some additional needs are specialty compounds that we can use, there are a number of verbal compounds that have been shown to help improve the action of insulin. We have a product called glucose balance, it contains many of these BS, such as Jimena Sylvester and East Indian herb bat has a great research behind it, showing it can help improve the action of insulin.
That's great. Well, now, is there anything else that you wanted to add to this today that's been fascinating talking to you about this blood sugar and insomnia, I wanna encourage anyone out there listening that maybe is struggled with their way... Don't give up. This is the real deal. We have helped people that were on their last rope and we've helped them change their lives, this is a program that will work, it's easy to follow, it's not complicated, we have great resources to guide you, we dedicated this program, we dedicated our book to anyone who's ever tried to lose weight and failed because what you have to realize it's not your fault, you have to align your physiology in your brain with your will, and when you do that, then you can be successful and we're able to help you align those factors.
