And we welcome her back to the mother's radio show, Dr.
Canale, how are you?
Great, it's great to be here again with you.
You know what, it was so great and fabulous the last time we've been talking to you and you have quite the following I hear at mother's market, so thanks for being here.
Today we are talking about immunity and how to recognize when we might have low immunity, and of course how we can build it, and so much about that in the media about this kind of flu and that one... It's so really interesting. So let's talk about immunity, Dr. Canale, yeah.
Community is what keeps us alive and people don't understand it and they don't understand all the diseases that are related to your immune system, and the biggest one I think that is starting us now is cancer, one, they predict one out of two people is getting cancer today, and so, but why... Why is there such an onslaught of diseases, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and autism, and the biggest reason is we have this beautiful chemistry in our body called the immune system made up of T-cells and B cells and Thymus, and for the sake of time, we can all look that up on a book, but what is the attack of our immune system that is compromising us so that we succumb to these diseases, cancer and heart disease and diabetes and stroke. Well, the biggest thing is toxins, toxins are everywhere, in a magazine a couple of months ago, I read that the average woman puts on about 569 chemicals and day in her body... Oh my gosh.
Well, what does that do? Well, it basically paralyzes the immune system in our ability to fight infections, whether it's a virus, when it's a bacteria, whether it's a toxin, and maybe it's in the foods that we eat, the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the soil that everything's grown into, and so what it does is our immune system gets weaker and weaker and weaker, and we suffer from a degenerative disease, or we suffer from cancer, or we suffer from high blood pressure or high blood sugar, diabetes, all these chronic ailments that plague us every day, and I've also been hearing about stress and how that can also heighten or the toxins or at least the immunity system, that if we're completely tired all the time and run... Run, run and run it that.
That's true. Stress, tremendously compromise, whether it's mental stress or it could be emotional stress, it could be physical stress, it could be psychological stress, or it could be the stress of the way we're eating, medications that we're taking, maybe just watching a movie can affect our stress or children who watch TV all day long, all of those things are stressful to the body, another big area that really no one's talking about is the electromagnetic field stress in cell phones and TVs and lights and iPods, and all the different electronics that we have today to make our life easier. And so we really need to be mindful of our day-to-day living, and hopefully we'll have time to cover some of that, but if we don't, I'd really encourage people to listen to lectures at mothers that we have and all kinds of things online, and you know what... That kind of goes into my next question, and it is about where are the toxins you've talked about, especially the electronics that we use, but what about household products and the make-up that we wear and all that... What else can we do?
Yeah, let's just talk about that. Let's take a day in the life of Mr. average Joe, he wakes up, probably went to happy hour last night, drink a few cocktails, wakes up feeling kind of tired and hung over starts his day and he says, you know, okay, so he has the distressed from last night, wakes up, don't think about drinking a glass of water to maybe drown some of those chemicals.
And then he says, You know what, I'm really tired, I need a cup of coffee. What does he do? drinks a cup of coffee, but sugar and fake creamer, some kind of cream or God knows what it is, has chemicals, you look at the ingredients on the bottle and they have like 10 different chemicals that you can't even pronounce. And then he goes, You know, I'm really hungry, so let me grab some fried eggs and some oil with margarine and some bread that has chemicals in it, and then he says, Okay, what, I better take a shower because I've had a bad night, and maybe that shower will wake me up, and then he uses chemicals in the shampoo that he has and is after shave and all the stuff that he puts on his body, and that's just the guy... We're not even talking about the girl, but you probably described... Yeah, the average cost.
Exactly, and so we haven't even gotten to a 8 o'clock yet, so... My god, right, we can go on and on and on with this day, and so all of these things, how do we get these chemicals, insecticides pesticides, the chlorine in the water, the juices that the people who drink the juices of... Where did they come from? They didn't really come from fresh fruit, it was fruit that's been processed through machines and God knows what... So every single thing you encounter, and you think about it, things that we've taken for granted, every one of us, not just because I'm a doctor, doesn't... I'm exposed to it all too, but what I try to teach my patients is we have to... We have to make our own personal space as clean as possible, and that's the key, you're not gonna be perfect, and then you're gonna support your body with wonderful nutrients, wonderful fruits and vegetables, and grains and beans, and all the nutrients that help combat us and deal with all these chemical exposures that we are dealing with every day that confront and knock down our immune system, the natural ones that are fighting, fighting to get rid of all those toxins.
I guess the question... Next question is, Does everyone contain significant amounts of toxins... I mean, you just went through someone's typical day and you really nailed it on the head, and it is eye-opening, but I guess what is the percentage of the pollutants in the blood and all of that... Well, that's a good question. They've actually measured, and I can take you for example, and measure in urine now because you see these things out and on a regular basis, and so you can actually measure the concentration of chemicals in your urine, the other way is they also measure blood. A recent study that was published in Scientific American as they took 20 babies of different races, and they measured their umbilical cord concentration of chemicals and found over 200 chemicals in each baby.
Wow, so the mother is actually downloading in her pregnancy, the chemicals to the baby... Well, autism isn't even something I learned in medical school, it wasn't even a topic in medical school... Now, it was one in 10000. now it's 150.Oh my gosh. And so we really... All the scientific community says, Oh, we really don't know what causes autism, but a baby and a human being is the most magnificent creature known to man and known to the world. Right, right.
And so there is obviously something that we are doing, and if you look at the introduction of chemical pollutants and toxins, it's the same graph as obesity and heart disease and cancer and autism. It's the same exact graph.
So we have to confront head on. These exposure to toxins. And really think about that everything that we do needs to have some kind of biological and ecological conservation, and National Geographic, Newsweek, all the publications now are talking about this plastic, this plastic dilemma that we have, it's real. And we must deal with it and all do our part. And one of the biggest things we all can do is stop using plastic water bottles, just that alone, and there are so many other things that we could do, and hopefully somebody really, really smart will come up with a plastic alternative, and they are coming up with those like baby bottles now, baby bottles now are non-toxic as a company called Born Free, and so the bottles, when I grew up, I use glass bottles, but kids today are using plastic bottles and all the plastic insurers that are in bottles, but now they have new bottles now that they are toxic free, because the number one polluted and man, I salads, which are the primary ingredient in plastic.
Okay, well, I know my kids are in elementary school and they come home every day and they're telling me more about We shouldn't be using plastics, and that unfortunately, that word is getting out now at a younger level, maybe they're the ones that are gonna develop the new alternative, I know it's in development now, but yeah, we... Myself, my age group, I have plastic bottles, plastic water bottles and baby bottles as well.
Yeah, well, that's the first thing I try to initiate with my patients and some of the things that they can do and take charge up, and that's what I tell them, Get rid of all the plastic. In your life, that will be the best thing you can do for yourself and for your world that you live in, we're getting some great information from Dr. Lee Aaron Canale. Stay with us, we'll be right back.
And now back to our interview with Dr. Kamel, we're discussing immunity, and right now we're gonna find out what we can do to boost our immunity... Dr. Kiely. Yes, it's important. I remember Kim, we were talking about antioxidants and the antioxidants, those are chemicals that help get rid of the free radicals, those were those unstable imbalanced role molecules that are produced from normal metabolism, and we have in our body antioxidants like glutathione, and we have coenzyme Q10, but as we age, a lot of these productions of these antioxidants decrease, but when we have such an onslaught of toxins like we have today, we really need to Ford of our body with the necessary nutrients so the cells can do what they need to do. We have 30 trillion cells, and each of them is a magnificent production, you cannot imagine what goes on in just one cell, not to mention trillions of cells, and I always tell people that's 12-zeros, but the antioxidants... First of all, you can start with your great organic fruits and vegetables, they're loaded with antioxidants, and the things that are not as good to eat, they're good for maybe protein source, but like need fish, eggs, those kinds of things, they're great for amino acid production, but they don't have the antioxidants like fruits and vegetables, and natural grains and beans, and then essential fatty acids, we have to take a central patties, the cell wall membrane is made up of essential fatty acids, we call them EAs or as most people know him, they know musicals, that's what most people know the word as, but essential fatty acids, they're called essential because you must have them, if you don't have them, you basically have the insides of the cells disintegrate because the essential fatty acids are protecting the inside of the cell.
So where would we get them to... Are we getting them in our diet... Well, I tell people, If you eat walnuts and flax seeds and pumpkin seeds and bacon, things like that every day, which really most people do not, then you probably need to take an essential fatty acid supplement. And anyone out there listening, if you don't take anything, the most important thing to take is essential fatty acids, so make sure that you take either fish oils or there's another type of vegetarian, 'cause some people are logic to fish, and some people like a vegetarian source, so there are vegetarian source at such as UDO organic that they sell at mothers, there's bar lines are... There are several different types, but make sure you get your essential fatty acids every single day, whether it's for you or your children or any member in your family.
Now, the other things, other anti-oxidants that really help your immune system, I use something that has total antioxidant, always trying to look for things to make it easier for patients, but I use a broad spectrum anti-oxidant called ACE and assets called ACES, and you can buy that mothers... And it has all the vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and S for Selenium, and then there is... They do add zinc to that, but that's a broad preterm anti-oxidant and you could take that every day, unfortunately, people say, Well, God, this is so much Arti have to take so many things. Well, I always tell people, you don't know if disease is occurring or not in your body, if you have heart disease, it's a 10, 12, 15 year process, if you have cancer, it's not something, Oh, I just woke up and I have a resale now that cancer started 12 years ago, so health is a process, not an event, we need to strive to get our body very healthy and healing all the time, 24 hours a day, and get our body in balance and harmony and... So you have to do these things. Unfortunately, these things are not optional, a couple of more anti-oxidants are co, enzyme Q10, coenzyme, Q10 people, your body naturally makes plenty of that until about age 30, and then after that, there's a drastic reduction, so everyone, whether you have any disease should probably be taking co-enzyme, Q10 every day. The other thing is another a good multi-vitamin and mineral, every single chemical and your reaction in your body requires certain nutrients, so I say you don't have that nutrient, say you don't have one nutrients, you're division in zinc, I can create a disease in the body with just a deficiency in one nutrient, and most of our food, as we've talked about before on prior shows, but I'm gonna remind our listeners, is that most of our food is devoid of nutrients, it doesn't have the nutrient value that it once had, so you must supplement.
Then there's some other antioxidants like an acetyl cysteine which increases, it's called NAC, it's very inexpensive, but that increases your antioxidant function, aside carnitine, then there also is something the most powerful antioxidant that your body naturally produces is glutathione and Nic naturally will increase that. There are also lots of fruits and vegetables that also increase glutathione.
Now, vitamin C is one of the most powerful ones, and I tell people like, say they don't wanna take aces or something like that, they can take a low dose vitamin C every single day.
Now, one important thing that we have to remember, if we're going to do this, we want our body to function as optimally as possible, and we started this conversation out with toxins, but in order for all these nutrients to work, we've gotta be cleaning out all the time, I always give the analogy to patients, I go, Look, you know, you take out your garbage in your kitchen, right, and you take it out frequently, just imagine not taking your garbage out for a week or two, you can't get into the kitchen... Well, those nutrients can't get into the cells to help them out if you're full of garbage, so we have to detoxify regularly every day. I know it sounds like this is overwhelming, we have all kinds of tips and our website mothers has great things and great resources at their stores, but you must detoxify in this day and time if you don't wanna be plagued with a degenerative disease.
And that is so true. And then when you say detoxify every day, now, there is a detoxification diet that I believe we have talked about in the past. But when you say Every day, you're talking mostly vegetables and fruits and vegetables, just kind of what you were just talking about, because they have the natural... The natural nutrients to help detox by... Plus the water, I always tell people, good clean water, water is The solution to pollution, so drinking water, and the rule of thumb is happier body weight, announces a water water water.
Let's talk a little bit about... We talked about the supplements, but low pH and with alkaline and acidic in our systems, can we talk about that and break that down a little bit? Yes, let's talk about the pH, our body, as I've told you before, is biochemical, there's a special biochemical balance, and the pH is what is the nature of the fluid in your cells, if it's acidic or alkaline... Naturally, the pH of our body is 743, and so your body works really hard and maintaining that balance of 743, so it's playing with the chemicals that it has it playing with all the resources that possibly can to maintain that ideal pH. Because why do you need that ideal pH?
Well, anybody out there who has a swimming pool, what do they do, they're checking the pH all the time, why are they checking the pH so bugs don't invade and to keep that water beautiful and crystal clear, you've gotta have an ideal pH where your body is the same way.
So what makes our PH perfect, and then I'll tell you think what makes pH really bad, what makes your pH really good is green, green, green, the more grain you eat cucumbers, bok, choy, broccoli, kale, all those green things make your body outline so the more alkaline you can that's why I created the Mega greens powder, because a lot of people are not really good in eating those vegetables, so we put 39 organic greens and I take it in a powder, that's the first thing I do every morning, and I mix it with my powerful antioxidant, Vitamin C. and that's what I drink every morning, and because I might not be perfect all day because... Let's think about it.
What makes you acidic?
On the stress makes you a CIC, maybe the water... Maybe I'm not able to get good water during the day, and for example, I enjoy a cup of coffee, an organic cup of good coffee. Well, coffee, I'll be honest, is really acidic, so I have got to make sure that I take some alkaline thing, some green outgoing things to balance out some of the things that I do like. I mean, let's be realistic. Everybody's not gonna go out there and be green, green, green and eat perfect vegetarian, they're just not going to... And let's say they did, let's just say they did. Well, they live in the same world that you and I do, a stressful world, electronic pollution, there's toxins, they can't avoid it either, so they've got to overcome a two with other things, like I said, with the greens every day, and positive mental attitude is very, very important if you have anger and stress, you make your body acidic, but if people drink Diet Coke, the pH of a Diet Coke is about 34, well, to get rid of that one diet coke that you drink that day would take a couple of gallons of good water to get rid of that through.
To flush it through.
So it boils down to... You can talk about any disease process, but if your body is a Civic, you will succumb to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, every chronic illness lives and thrives in an acidic environment, and another big thing is a lack of oxygen, and so that's why you have to exercise if you exercise, you increase the oxygen to your tissues, so there's a few little things that we can do, it sounds complicated, but it really, really isn't, and we have things so many things now on the market to help us do it in a very simple way. There really are a quick question, and going back to the alkaline and the acidic part, is there a way to measure where you are in that... That's a great question can... Because people ask that all the time, yes.
There's two ways you can do that. You can check your... I have patients check your second morning pH of your urine, you check your your... You get some pH test strips, which are available everywhere, perfectly healthy or at mothers, and you check your second morning here and you don't wanna... You could check your first or second, the first, it probably would be worse because you just spent seven hours detoxifying during your sleep time, so it might be a little worse, but it'd be a great... That would be a great goal for you to get to ideal pH of 7, then you can also buy saliva test strips to measure your pH, but what you want and what your goal out there, whatever patient wants and people out to do it because you know it's interesting, most people eat the same foods all the time, so if they did it a couple of days, they would know their bodies either alkaline or acidic very, very quickly, and there's simple little ways, like I tell people, popping green pills, say They know... Let's face it, how many people are eating 7 to 9 recommended servings of fruits and vegetables? Very few, very few, but we have all these green supplements available on the market now that help us do that, and those are things they can pop all day long. How difficult is that? It's not because I tell people, you know, this is the reality of life.
The reality of life, I tell people, I'm just the messenger. I didn't create this, I didn't make this, I just want the world to be a better place to live. And I want people to restore their health, and these are easy recommendations to do, and I always give the analogy, if you don't stop at the stop sign, what happens when you're driving... Okay, there's many, many consequences of not stopping at the stop sign, the same thing I'm gonna tell all the listeners out there, if you don't do these things, be prepared for some chronic degenerative illness because you must follow the laws and rules of the human body that we already know, we know all this information, we know how to restore health and get people back on track.
Well, you know, and I love your analogies by the way. You make it very easy for all of us to figure out also, and we love you for your research and then for being the messenger. So thank you so much for your time, Dr. Canale, we look forward to having you on again, but in the mean time, you can catch more of Dr. Canale on her radio show, healthy wealthy and wise, that's on XM channel 170, or visit her online at perfectly healthy dot net and learn more about all of the wonderful things she's involved with.
