But first up, we're pleased to have Dr. Yaroslav mobile with us. Dr. public was educated in Melbourne, in Australia, and received his BSc from the Department of Chemistry at Monash University, and later his PhD from the Department of Medicine at Monash University. He is an associate member of the Australian College for Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, and a member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in a chartered chemist. Dr. Bela has published over 30 peer-reviewed studies and articles in scientific journals and has presented almost 40 scientific papers at research symposia, and he is inventor holding four patents, three of which are in the US and one for a hydration solution held in 25 countries. And we welcome him to the mother's market radio show. How are you?
I'm welcome. How are you?
I think it's great to have you here.
Why don't you fill our audience in a little bit on your mission and work before we get to the show's topic.
Well, my mission with all of the work that I've done over my career has always been, you know, basically trying to figure out the best technologies in health and well-being, that started out with my undergraduate and graduate studies in Neuron-tremolo GY, and then later peptide chemistry and that was all very much focused on drug development, because back in those days, I believe the drugs were the future of medicine, now I don't anymore...
I think nutritional medicine is the future of medicine, and I'm a great believer in the old adage that An answer, prevention is worth the pandu. And so I really focused the last, I guess, 25 years, very much more on the preventative approach, so particularly nutritional medicine, but other aspects of that, and I guess in the last 10 or 15 years, I've been working as a consultant to the industry, doing lots of education but also lots of product development for a number of different companies, I have my own research and development company, we've developed some unique technologies in hydration, particularly, which is certainly my research interest and passion, but I work right across the board in terms of developing products for all sorts of organizations. And I guess what we're particularly focused on here at the moment at the expo is the Mr company that I've been working for now for about six or seven years and developing products for them.
Well, that I think it's fascinating and just your background is intriguing and with all of your patterns too. So let's talk about hydration.
And can you inform me about the hires...
I've seen... Hydration is one of the... I still, even after me talking compared for 15 years, is still one of the most under-valued and understood Issues in Health and Well-Being, cellular Aton is absolutely... It's one of the foundation stones of well-being, if you don't have sufficient fluid and water operating in all of your cells, taking nutrients into the sales, taking waste products out of yourselves, then you sedate materialism simply can't operate properly.
So we focus a lot of attention on understanding those mechanisms, what it is that gets fluid into cells, what it is that gets fluid back out of cells and how we can facilitate those things to occur more efficiently with greater integrity, so that we're always delivering optimal nutrition. Via the mechanism of water uptake, so that's really what it is, is hydration, I think from a popular point of view, is typically very much focused on sports hydration, and clearly it's incredibly important for sports people to stay hydrated, but what we haven't... Still got the message across about, is how important hydration is for everybody else, we actually live in a pretty de-hydrating world, especially in the modern western world, where we're surrounded with a conditioning and electromagnetic radiation and de-hydrating foods and drugs and all of those things put together mean that we end up fraction, ally, dehydrated, I'm not talking acutely dehydrated where you fall over on talking that it'll be down from where it should be, and that little tiny change actually makes a huge difference to our well-being.
So last year, we spoke to you about your work on hydration and the product that you developed with... Mr. it's the hydration factor.
Correct, and thank you, by the way, for knitting as to this point, so I understand you just released a new version of the product called is it Kean, you tell us more about that.
Absolutely, so hydration factor was the first real embodiment of the patent or technology that we created, which is a herbal combination, very much focused at cathedra ion, and what we realized is that because from a broader point of view, there are a lot of athletes that want to use that technology, we thought that we could incent supercharge that by adding in some electrolytes and some other components.
So HX is really is aimed at the sports market, and he's very much a hydration product for sports people, so we still have hydration factor, and I still think that is the most appropriate product for people who want to use a hydration tool for general wellness, but it is definitely the sport-specific product, and so how can it help then when you were talking about how it's directly marketed at the sports market, what is it helping them... So it's helping them take up more fluid into their sales, but because their electrolytes are present in the formulation to start with, it helps them also take up those electrolytes because electrolytes certainly are important for anyone that's sweating a lot, losing a lot of those electrolytes through sweat, they definitely need that additional supplementary electrolyte source, and then conducting that into the cells together with the water using our patented technology really is a great way to ensure that all of those electric levels are maintained, but also the water levels are maintained and important. We didn't add a lot in the way of calories, so it hasn't got a heavy carbohydrate load, like A lot of sports drinks are heavy carb sports drinks, and they're really sports fuels or they should be viewed as sports fields, this is really pretty light and carbohydrate and what that means is that an athlete that's using a sports fuel can use this in addition, because it has that core technology, the herbal combination that increases cellular hydration and one thing else, so we always hear about... I was gonna ask you what makes it so different, but I always hear about the sport strings have a sugar and they also have all the wrong things, so they say Don't drink those.
Yeah, absolutely.
So what makes sure is different in... What makes us different is that we don't have those things in it, and to be brutally honest about the sports Stricker, a lot of people consume sports drinks that aren't elite sports people or endurance athletes, and they probably don't need the additional calories in their life in all honesty, they may think that they need some sports nutrition thats good, if they doing a work out, doing a run or Jim workout or something, they probably don't need the additional few hundred calories that come in the typical sports string. So I think this would be an ideal product for them to use, work on their hydration, get that up, because clearly that's what the exercise is going to deplete and have those additional electrolytes, which just make sure that there's those components which are often lost in sweat, are supplemented back back in there, what else are you gonna be releasing with your company, so I re-releasing two other ranges which were quite excited about because... And I'm personally excited about because I've had quite a lot to do with the development of these two ranges, the first is a kid's range. We haven't had a dedicated kids range for a long children's range, I suppose I should call it... We call it marked, so that's why I'm using that terminology, but it's a range of products that I think we... We look how to careful, look at what's out there on the market, we talk to a lot of parents that use nutritional supplementation with the kids and found out really what they wanted, and what they wanted was liquid formulations because they're just easier to use. You can grade the dosage, you can use it very tiny kids or bigger kids by just adjusting the volume instead of having to worry about how many capsules or break pills in half or whatever.
So that was the first thing. The second thing, obviously being liquids, they have to taste good, so we did a lot of work on making them taste hot and there are some ingredients in these formulations which don't taste that good by themselves, so it was quite a task to get that right. And kudos to the gentleman that we have doing flavorings, check rode off, 'cause they're really good tasting product, thirdly, we stay away from sugar, so there's again, no, no additional calories, except where they're provided by the active ingredients, milk and soy free. 'cause again, a lot of parents don't want their kids to... They either think that the kids may have some sort of level of allergy to those things, or they simply want to take them out of the diet, so they're milking, so free and largely vegetarian and vegan, so... We're quite excited about that. The second range is three new joint products.
Now, this is really close to my heart. What should I say to my hip, because I do have a family history of osteoarthritis, and at 56 years of age, after years of windsurfing and mountain biking, I'm starting to experience the beginnings of the probably inevitable degeneration despite all of what I've done. And so for me, it was very important to build some really good joint product, we've done... We've created three of those, and I think they're really quite unique, and so this... Can you expand on that?
Yeah, sure.
So this is the vegan, this is the joint synergy range now, two of them called vegan joint synergy, motion and strengthen, and these are unusual in the sense that the vegan joint product, so one of the things that a lot of people who have joint issues have a difficulty with is many, many of the supplements that might be available to them are not vegan, because many of the joint support supplements use animal ingredients, so we did a lot of research and actually found vegan vegetarian sources of a number of the ingredients, which are pretty rare to find in those forms, we have two products which are absolutely suitable for vegans, and I think that's great. I'm not a vegan personally, but for people that follow that lifestyle for whatever ethical reasons or for whatever reason they do, to actually have the choice to be able to use these sorts of products, I think is very good, the kind of Rolls Royce product of that particular group is called joint synergy completed. And this is the one that I got really excited about because essentially, we started with a clean slate and basically put in every single ingredient that we could find that would help with joint support from the point of view of reduction of paying, improvement of joint structure improvement of the synovial fluid, the fluid that bathes the joints, and I think we've come up with something really quite extraordinary. I have personally used it for a couple of months, and I've never had a product that's worked as well as this for me, for this particular issue, I've tried glucose mainland can draw it in, and MSM and all kinds of herbal Amy-inflammatories, but this combination just is it's magical. It really is.
On that note, we're gonna stop it down because we'll take a quick break, but I'm excited for you to talk more about that when we come back, we have to take a break.
So stay with us.
Thanks.

And now, back to our interview with Dr. public... And we're talking about joint health and how it all ties together, and it's really fascinating. Doctor, can you talk to us about... Well, you started telling me really about you really... Your personal story? Yeah, well, my personal story, as I said, there's a family history of osteoarthritis, I've also been involved with a moderate level with lots of sports over the years that have put probably unreasonable loading on joints, back, knees pipes, it was probably inevitable that I would have faced this issue myself, but in the bigger picture, the other aspect of Joint Health that has become really important to me is that it is something that when you start losing it, you quickly kind of... It puts it into perspective. So when you can't move as easily as you used to, then all sorts of things start changing, you start doing all these little adaptive behaviors where if that joint hurt, you stop using that joint, or guess what, pretty soon you lose all the muscles around that joint and pretty soon, then other joints start suffering, and it's the beginning of the decline of aging, which I'm really unhappy about.
The reason to keep the joints healthy is to stop all of those downstream effects, the other thing is, of course, there's a huge relationship between joint health and obesity, Manteca, both white people that are at best, typically end up with poor Joint Health because their joints have so much more of a load on them, unfortunately, those same people end up with joint discomfort and that decreases their ability to exercise, and so we end up in a really rapid downward spiral, so I think joint support products can actually have a much broader effect on health and well-being than just helping the joint, they're having healthy joints is really a holistic issue, it's not just a fractional issue of make puts... It's pretty soon the whole body has problems because of the changes that you inevitably start bringing into your life, so I do think that that's a much deeper issue than just a little joint discomfort.
So I have two questions for you, and one of them, I do want you to continue talking about the joint energy complete because that's... You said is the roles. Race, Ernestine.
And why is that?
So there are a whole lot of different things that you can do to support joint, one of the things you can do is provide all the raw materials basically for the structure of the joint and that fluid that bathes in the lubricant fluid, synovial fluid.
And so we have in the joint synergy complete collagen large amounts of college and 10 grams or 86 grams of college, and we've got 340 milligrams of hilarion acid, these are the building blocks of healthy cartilage and son of our fluid.
Then we've got a whole range of herbal Antifa tries, so the pain in the disease joint in Udon comes from inflammation, so if we can time down the inflammation using natural and inflammatories rather than drug-based non-steroidal anti-inflammatories or analgesics or whatever, then we get pain relief, but we also then allow increased range of motion, and you don't end up with the last motion that typically accompanies the degeneration of the joints, so it's a really complete formula and the discomfort that I was experiencing or beginning to experience... The biggest thing that made a change for me were standing just on collagen, and that made me think, Well, what else can we add to this? And over the last, I guess, 18 months, it's evolved, and so we now have this complete formulation with all of these ingredients, and honestly, I don't think you could put a better formulation together, now it's not vegan because some of these ingredients do come from animal sources, so sorry, for the vegans that are out there, you're gonna have to stick with motion and strengthen, but for anyone that is prepared to take the complete formula, I don't think you'll find a better formula, it is you take large amounts of it, it's... It's a 15-gram scoop every day, and you might get up in a shake, and that's how I start my day every day now, so I think it's really just a great way for anyone who wants the Rolls Royce who is really experiencing some serious joint problems, I won't give them money back guarantee, but you know, my word is on it... Well, that's it, and that's the other question I wanted to ask you is from your background, your background that was in chemistry and medicine, what was your turning point to go natural and to... What was that point in your life?
Probably there was a couple of things.
Finally enough, one was actually a personal health issue, which happened when I was in... My first post-doctoral fellowship was actually in China, and my wife at the time was an English teacher, she agreed to teach English to a young man that we met, and rather than him or his family paying us, his father was a Chinese traditional doctor, and so he offered to treat me. I didn't think there was anything wrong with me, but he did a whole lot of traditional Chinese medicine, balancing this and that, and you know, getting the cheap and all this sort of stuff, and I didn't realize how far from 100% I was until I had the experience of going back to 100%. And it really opened my eyes.
So when I came here to the United States for the first time in 9995, a California already had a pretty healthy complementary and alternative medicine community.
So while I was busily developing drugs during the day, I was working at understanding more about all of these things at night, and so that was really the change.
I then went back to Australia, and what I saw was, again, an incredibly quickly growing industry in this complementary in nutritional medicine, and somewhere along the line there, I guess I reflected on the fact that it's the answer prevention versus the pound of cure. And I can't remember who said it, but somebody once said, you're either part of the problem or part of the solution. I'd rather be part of the solution.
Absolutely. Well, you have some great works and you're continuing on, and so we... Thank you for that question. Wants goes back to the hydration to bring you back to Water, is there a benefit to Alkaline water?
It's a very topical issue and look, I do have a position on this as a classically trained chemist and biochemist, I believe I know quite a lot about the chemistry and to a degree, biochemistry of Water, I think they certainly... They certainly value in us working on our understanding of how water works in the body, and this is in line with my other research I've been doing on hydration now as to pH... Alkali water by itself. I think there's some misunderstandings. I think the whole thing has been probably over-simplified and maybe for good reasons, because the truth of it is somewhat complex, and I believe is actually more about electrolyte buffering. So what I think the human body needs is adequate amounts of fluid water, but obviously that water has to be buffered with the appropriate ions, appropriate amounts of sodium and potassium and chloride and whatever that make it bio-active water in the body.
Now, a number of companies have latched on to this idea that it needs to be high pH, if you look at the human body, it's not high pH, it's slightly about seven, seven is neutral. 74 is the pH of blood, and our body does control that pH incredibly accurately, really, if the pH or blood changes more than probably a 10th or a hundredth of a unit, you're in serious trouble, and that will be something that acute care physicians certainly look at.
So the idea of pouring a whole bunch of alkaline water into the body and talking about Al-colonizing the body, I think is just... It's an over-simplification. I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm not saying alkali water doesn't work. I just don't think it works in the way that simplistically, we've been told it works, which is to Alphonse the body.
I do however, think that what's important is that we're consuming adequate fluid, adequate water, that is the appropriate amount of electrolytes in that water.
I do think that at a local level within cells, pH actually is more of an issue, so there are sub-Sally L organelles in cells which have pH that is quite different to the close to neutral 74 of the rest of the body for specific reasons, you know digesting food or whatever, there are areas within the body where pH is very different in the stomach, the pH is about 19 in the small intestine, it's well above neutral for particular reasons, but I don't think Whole Body alkalinity is really what's going on.
Interesting. dehydration and Joint Health go hand in him... Very much so. So one of the things that I have certainly observed for myself, but also observed with people that we've worked with, products like hydration factor is that when they get properly hydrated, bones got water in it too, so I do the joints. So fluid, the fluid fraction of human bone is quite significant, the amount of fluid inside the joints in those lubricant liquids and so on, very important.
So someone who's fractional ly dehydrated in one of the places that the body will rob fluid from is scale up and joint, so getting properly hydrated does make a difference to joint health as well.
We've got some anecdotal evidence that people that get well-hydrated will actually gain heat because when you get your hydration levels back to what they should be, then you re-hydrate the intervertebral discs and you might pick up a centimeter or two... Where can I sign up for that?
I need that.
We can't do anything more than a couple of cameos, and it really only works in people who are older and significantly dehydrated, but we've certainly seen changes in changes in heat.
So that tells you that I'm really using it as an example of how it is that that water in our body is everywhere, I mean literally to the extent of our skeleton, so it's very... Very important to stay hydrated.
Wow, this is fascinating, I could talk to you forever. And I learned so much. Well, thank you so much for your time and some great advice and do... We really appreciate you stopping by.
