Dr. Banker is licensed in the pastoral Medical Association as a doctor of pastoral science and medicine, and we welcome her to the mother's market Podcast, Dr. Banker, how are you?
I'm doing awesome, thank you so much for having a... Thanks, it's great for you to be here. Before we get to today's topic, I want you to fill us in on your mission and your work, my personal purpose is to be the healthiest best version of myself possible, living in full congruence with everything that I know to be true and believe in, so that I can be a light and a leader and an example to all others who wanna do the same. Perfect, I love it. Today, we were talking about weight loss and diets, and so Dr. Vince, what is the biggest problem in America today when it comes to weight loss? The biggest problem when it comes to weight loss is people have been misinformed about how to really lose weight, we've been lied to for years and years and years, and shamed that losing weight is all about dieting and exercising, and it really doesn't have anything to do with either one of those things really, really know what is it about? It's about your body being healthy from the inside out and being able to clean your body out and get toxins out of your system and eating the right foods, but mainly cleaning your body out, detoxifying your body first to get your hormones balanced before you can actually lose weight.
So it's a process and it becomes a lifestyle.
Absolutely. Which we're gonna talk about. This is not like, Tell me in two sentences. Right, yeah, it's a lot more.
How can we revert Americans addiction to sugar?
This is gonna be... What we're gonna focus on right now, right?
So sugar addiction is a huge problem, and the problem really is more so in the United States, but other industrialized nations to that become westernized, and the problem is, is that we've put so much sugar into our systems now we went from eating maybe a few teaspoons of sugar a day, back in the early 1900s, and now the average sugar intake is 40, 50, 60 teaspoons of sugar a day, so how do we revert that education first, and making changes in your body and in how you eat so that you can break your addiction issuer by exchanging it for other healthy foods and taking care of the nutritional deficiencies in your body that are creating that unending cycle of addiction... Addiction, addiction, over and over and over again. And so, in your practice, do you teach your clients or your patients how to recognize what is it, because the sugars and everything... Yes, so do you beside looking at a label, do you ultimately teach your patients what it feels like when they've been kicked off the sugar train to get on the seas... The program that I offer in my practice is multi-stages, and it's actually a coaching program, so I take everyone's hand and we go through the system of changing your eating and lifestyle changes, and that doesn't happen overnight, so we do that over many months, because that's what people need to really change their habits and change how they're eating, so we actually... For one of our first stages of our program for the first 40 to 60 days, they're only eating healthy meats, protein sources, if it's a vegetarian vegetables and fruits, so all of that junk, we don't have to look at labels anymore because they're just eating real whole foods. Meets Proteins, vegetables and fruits. So they don't have to look at labels 'cause there is no processed food in the beginning of the program, so I've heard you can eliminate sugar from your body in 24 hours, but is that true if you went cold turkey on sugar... No, I think it takes longer than 24 hours. I think it can take weeks to really get the sugar out of your system because eating the sugar creates so many in-depth changes at a cellular level, so really, to stop that addiction and to change that addiction and not have it be an issue anymore, you really have to heal the body from the inside out at a cellular level, and cellular healing takes months, probably mental, I think with... You're addicted, right?
Yes, there's a lot of psychological components to it too... Absolutely.
So can you explain what happens in our bodies when our source of energy is sugar?
So this is a great question, and it's something that I talk a lot about in my practice with my clients, there's really only two sources of fuel that your body can use to live to survive, and that sugar or fat, and when your body is stuck in sugar burning, which most Americans are... You have this uncontrollable craving for sugar because your body is only able to at its present level of health, burn sugar for fuel, it can't burn fat for fuel because it doesn't have the nutritional reserves, the hormone balance to cellular health to do so.
So when you're a sugar burner, your body gives you a craving for the only thing that you can use because you have to stay alive, your body is gonna make sure that you stay alive, so it's gonna give you a craving for either a carbohydrate that breaks down into a sugar like potatoes or yams or rise or tortilla chips or fruit, which is sugar to or candy, so that you can get the fuel that you need when you eat sugar, the thing that happens immediately is insulin gets released, insulin is one of the top fat storage hormones in the body.
Insulin creates inflammation, creates aging, creates the bladder to go down because the body's blood sugar is so high, the insulin release so that we can try and shove all that sugar into the cell, and again, it's the top fat storage hormone, which we don't want normally.
And then, of course, the older we get, the harder that is to go away, that's not a fat storage... That's what I hear. A loud and clear.
Yes, so when that fat is our source of energy... What about that?
When we flip it... Okay, so when we flip it, which by the way, it takes a while, and that's why a lot of this new craze lately that everybody has been hearing about ketosis, the Keto diet, it works for some... Especially if you're young and healthy. But many people, it doesn't work for... 'cause if you don't get the body cleaned out first and heal the cell membrane, which is where all the hormone receptors are, Keto won't work.
So when you are able to train your body to burn fat for fuel, which does take a while for most, especially if you're 40 and above, now you're gonna be releasing ketones for fuel instead of glucose, and when you release ketones for fuel, the insulin is not released anymore, the other top store the other top hormone in the body is called glucose in its exact opposite of insulin, so when glucose is released instead of insulin, it has all of the opposite 180-degree properties that insulin has its anti-aging, anti-inflammatory neuroprotective, like We don't wanna have Alzheimer's, we don't wanna do scale dementia, so that's all about protecting the brain with ketones, so glucose now is going to create a healthy body balance, blood sugar, balanced energy, no more spikes in the sugar work goes really high, you get all this energy, and then it crashes, so any time you're getting tired after a meal, you ate too many cars, insulin was released, of course, you're gonna be tired and you're gonna go through this up and down, and then what do you need to do? Run to Starbucks, get the coffee, and it's just this constant kicking this poor little horse with a whip, just trying to get all this energy out of this person and the wonder we're all so tired and so many people are getting so sick now, and... Thank you. That you described that really well. Those details.
So the ketogenic diet and that intermittent fasting, talk a little bit about that, and why is that tuning so much, especially I think you really pointed out a good point with the ages, when these kids that are doing it, maybe it works for them, but maybe when you're over 40, it's not working. We have a lot of cleaning out to do... Yes, we've been here a lot longer. And at night, I'll be working, right.
I mean, we take a look at the United States now, back when I was born in the 60s, and cancer was unheard of, Diabetes, Type 2 was called adult-onset diabetes, and now we can't even call it that anymore, because our kids are becoming type 2 diabetic because the amount of chemicals and the quality of the food has declined rapidly in just the last 30, 40, 50 years, so ketosis and intermittent fasting are important tools to have, but you don't ever wanna just be in ketosis all the time, you don't wanna be fasting all the time, and you wanna see where a person is from an individual basis, and that's why I love to coach people, because everybody's different, everybody's starting from a different starting point based on your age, your health history, where you came from, your ancestors, so we need to see where you're at where we're gonna start from, and every person is gonna have a different program based on who they are, their age, their health history, etcetera, etcetera.
So in your opinion, do you think these kind of programs are gonna make Americans healthier, a lot of people are doing this without being coached, but I'm sure with you being a coach, people need to have someone come alongside of them.
Yes, so that's what I love to do, is guide people along the way, because in my opinion, based on over 25 years in practice, it's not safe to try and do Keto on your own, it's not safe to try and do intermittent fasting on your own or water fasting, you really need an expert guide to make sure that you're doing it the right way, because there can be issues.
So a lot of these people that are just doing keto, they're just doing keto all the time. So you have to realize that ketosis is a famine cycle, our ancestors, and the reason that we're alive today is because our ancestors were really good at putting on fat when there was a lot of food around feasting, and then they were really good at burning fat when there wasn't any food around famine, so we were meant to alternate back and forth between feast and famine, but see, now we're born into the United States and were fed immediately, and from day one, we're basically having food and nutrients shoved in our mouth every two hours, we've never given our bodies a space on the time to actually rest and relax and clean out and get healthy and work on the things that need to be worked on is true. Yeah, that's another clear picture right there, why do you believe that this is the best approach to weight loss, cleansing? I guess that...
Well, the approach that I use in my office is a diet variation approach based on ancient civilizations, so it's not just ketosis, it's not just intermittent fasting, it's starting off with a form of ketosis in the beginning, so that we can actually clean the body out and get the toxins out again, at a cellular level, I'm gonna keep coming back to that. Cellular healing is crucial, and you don't hear very many practitioners or doctors talk about cellular healing. Everything happens at the cellular level. Our bodies are made up of 70 trillion cells. Energy is made in the cell, happy feelings happen in the cell, being able to fall asleep at night, happens in the cell, being able to burn fat happens in the cell, all of the receptors for the hormones are on the outside of ourselves, our average cell has over 20000 hormone receptors. The problem is, because of the amount of toxins and the unhealthy fats that we've been putting into our diet since the beginning of processed food and the snack nation dilemma, which started in the 60s and 70s, the cell membrane is now filled with toxins, unhealthy fats, the cells are dehydrated, they're inflamed those receptors, the little antennas that allow us to communicate with all these amazing chemical messengers, hormones which make everything happen.Don't work anymore. The receptors are broken, they're blended, so that's why even if you eat healthy and go Keto, if you don't heal that cell wall and get those toxins out of your body slowly and safely and replace those unhealthy fats with healthy fats that the cell membrane is supposed to be made out of... You'll never lose the weight. It won't work.
So again, I appreciate the way you're describing this, so I walk into your office and that's the first time that I'm gonna be working with you. What is the very first thing when you say, yes, you go through the practice of ketosis and then cellular healing.
Yes, I imagine you can really look at a body type and say, Okay, this is what this person does is because you've been doing this senior practice for so long, but what would I go on a fast immediately or what would be... What is your practice? What I see, what you say with cellular healing, and everybody is different, and especially age and women, but what would be the first thing... Okay, thank you for asking that. It gives me an opportunity to explain what I do and why it's so different than really anything else out there, and I do believe that what I do is different than anything else out there, so as far as me looking at someone... Yes, I do have a lot of clinical experience and I probably could gather a lot of information just from looking at someone, but that's very subjective, so I love scientific testing, I love being objective.
So we use blood work, we use hair analysis, we do our analysis, but the primary foundational testing that we use for our weight loss program for somebody that really wants to get healthy, and I call it weight loss, but it's really not weight loss, it's a health transformation program and the side effect of getting the body healthy from the inside out of to cell level is you automatically lose weight, but not just wait, you actually are only losing fat, so I specialize in getting people into fat-burning so that the water does not go down so all other weight loss programs, water goes down, the metabolism slows down, you're starving a person, I'm not gonna mention names of other programs... We all know what they are, right?
So the body starts eating muscle, and when you're done, maybe you've lost 20 or 30 pounds, but you don't look so good anymore, you look kind of soggy and dehydrated, and you end up gaining the weight back typically because your metabolism has slowed down, so I use resonant frequency energetic testing, which is what Einstein talked about when he talked about quantum physics, the problem is, is Western medicine is stuck in the old belief system of Newtonian physics. Newtonian fix says that if you can see it and feel that it's real, but if you can't see and feel that it doesn't exist, we know that's not true, there's energy, there's waves, there's tons of energetic advanced testing now where we can actually ask your body using resonant frequency testing along with galvanic skin resistance, which is what we use in the lie detector test, to ask your body over 3000 different questions on what biomarkers are out... Arrange in your body, what hormones are out of balance? What nutrients does Kimberly need? What organs do we need to support, what emotions are affecting your eating patterns, what do we need to do to support you? What nutrients do you need so that we can customize your program, what foods are the best for you, if I test you and then test another client an hour later, it'll be completely different, so we customize it that way in the beginning and... Yes, the first stage of the program is taking all process and packaged food out and eating just the fruits, the vegetables, and the proteins that show up on your 2800 biomarker scan that we utilize as our first testing.
Wow. Okay, so there it is. It's super customized. And again, I like that. It's scientific as well.
Sorry, thank you for explaining that. You're welcome.
This is very interesting, we have a lot more to get back to stay with this, so we're gonna be right back more with Dr. Cynthia Becker stayed with this.

And now back to our interview with Dr. Banker, and we've been talking about the latest and weight loss diets, but really this health transformation, and can you talk about someone being in ketosis for life and what are the risks... So ketosis for life, as we discussed earlier, is in my opinion, is not a safe thing to do because it's a famine cycle, we don't wanna be in a starving cycle for the rest of our life. Yeah, so it's a great thing to do for short periods of time, because when you're in ketosis, when you're in fat-burning, you're actually turning on a mechanism in the body called autophagy, autophagy, auto-A-U-T-O-fage, which means self-eating.
So in 2016, a scientist actually won a Nobel prize for his work on autophagy, this is the thing that happens when the body can finally go in and clean out disease cells pre-cancer or cells make new tissue, it's what happens when you fast... But instead of having a fast and not have any food at all, you can mimic fasting within the body, but still eating by getting yourself into ketosis, by keeping your carbohydrates low, but it's never something that you wanna do long-term when you're in ketosis and when you're in a state of autophagy, it's a cleaning, it's a letting go. It's a detoxification. Life is about balance and cycles, and the ebb and flow, that's the beauty of life, and so you wanna have times when you're eating higher carbs, and so that the body doesn't feel like it's starving and then be able to add will once you've gotten healthy enough and clean enough at a cellular level to be able to go back and forth between fat burning and fat storage, feast and famine, just like our ancestors did.
So then, thank you for explaining that, that is a healthy transformation, what is the best way to approach food cravings, especially sugar cravings and in a restrictive diet such as the ketogenic.
So the best way to address sugar cravings is to, in my opinion, get tested so that the program is customized for your body, and nutritional support, specifically minerals and electrolytes are crucial when you're in a state of ketosis, when your body is in autophagy and you're cleaning out and you're releasing all kinds of toxins and all kinds of junk, you also are letting go of lots of electrolytes, which are minerals, when you lose electrolytes too quickly and you don't keep the reserves up high enough at the same time, it's dangerous, you can create heart arrhythmias it can create weakness, it can create being tired, dizziness, muscle cramping, and that's why you really need an expert guide, a coach that knows what they're doing, that's been doing it for a long time, that's doing it themselves, so that they've experienced it personally. And that's what they do, is they just coach people through this process day, day, week by week, so that they can get into that state in a safe way and not experience any of those negative effects on... Some people also report having symptoms of the flu when in fat-burning State, can you explain what that is with the keto flu and how to treat that... Very similar to what we just talked about, it has to do with, well, sugar addiction as part of it, You're going through this sugar withdrawals, and when you're in ketosis, you're releasing tons of talks and see most of the toxins in our body, especially Americans, because we're inundated with so many chemicals and pesticides and junk in the food, water that we drink, air that we breathe, we've got tons of toxins in the body, our liver is our detoxification organ, our liver was designed to get rid of those toxins, but the problem is, is that we are inundated with toxins, too many for the liver to deal with, and the liver won't work properly and get rid of toxins if you don't have high nutritional reserves, specifically anti-oxidants.
So what does the body do? And all these toxins are coming in and it can't get rid of them, it freaks out, it doesn't know what to do, so it just stuff them in the fat cells, so it shuts him in the fat cells 'cause that's a protective, safe place to be. And your body won't let you lose weight if you don't have a safe way to get rid of those toxins that have been stored in that fat for years, most likely the way you're just driving it, it just... You make it sound like a cartoon, like you're in a stuff this in the kidney to The... So thank you. It actually makes it... You make a lot of sense. So I understand that now. And so the changes though that people usually go through, and we observe in their bodies when doing this, what are these changes? What does that look like?
So the changes are, as we discuss detoxification, you're losing tons of minerals and electrolytes, so you have to have those minerals continuing to be placed in the body on a day-by-day basis with pink salt, not pin-Cam Alan, but a high quality trace mineral salt.
We use in our office called Premier pink salt, it's a medical grade salt that's half Mediterranean... Half a win over 90 trace minerals. Panama Lane is obviously better than white table salt, but it has anywhere from 30 to 60 trace minerals, we use a salt that has over 90 trace minerals, we have liquid minerals that we use, we use apple cider vinegar, which is also full of minerals, we advocate and teach tons of vegetables, unlimited vegetables, dark green leafy vegetables are the best... They're full of minerals. So we want all these nutrients, all these minerals coming into the body on a regular basis so that you're not losing so many, and then having those negative effects of muscle cramping, being dizzy, weak, Harari, me as low energy, etcetera, and how long does this... I guess it would be different for everybody.
Yes, yeah, so I think you kind of talked about that a little bit. So everybody is different to see the change, the transformation, most people, when we start them through the first stage when they're just eating the fruits and the proteins and the vegetables, the first few days for most people putting on... Their age might be a little tough. They're used to eating more often, they're used to eating their junk food, but we support them so well... Nutritionally, usually within a few days, they're not hungry anymore, they're in fat burning, so once you get someone into fat-burning and you do it the right way by supporting them nutritionally, when you're burning fat... One pound of fat is 3500 calories of fuel.
My average client burns through on average half a pound of fat every single day, not weak every day, so they're eating meats, vegetables and fruits, 500 to 1000 Calgary es per day, but it's not a low calorie program because they're actually burning through fat and getting fed by that shares Board of fat around our bellies and our hips and our thighs, and wherever it is that you gain fat, so it's not a low calorie program, you're actually getting anywhere from 1500 to 2500 calories a day by the fact that you're burning along with all the healthy, real whole food. And the nutrients that you're taking. And so you just answered another question was How many calories but... And does that kind of vary as well? Or it does, men usually can have more 'cause their protein needs are a little higher, vegetables are unlimited, so there really is no calorie restriction, so you can eat as many vegetables as you want, but we're gonna go with primarily the lower Capehart, more water-filled vegetables versus course corn, which is not really a vegetable or maybe potatoes, so those are more starches, so we're gonna go with more things like cucumbers and spinach, and kale and radishes, and broccoli and cauliflower, and your list will be different from the next person's list in different order of biological preference based on that, resonant frequency testing that we did in the beginning to determine what your body responds the best too.
Okay, and can you talk now about the hydration levels, the bowel movements, body temperature, and then some of these nutritional supplements that I guess they're called exogenous exogenous.
I'm trying to figure out... What does that say? Yes, can you talk a little bit about that?
So when you're in ketosis, which again, I don't advocate for long terms, we only have one stage where you're in ketosis, we take you out of that stage within the first 40 to 60 days, so when you're in ketosis, you're dumping tons of electrolytes, so we need to make sure that the electrolytes are coming back in, and we actually need to make sure that you don't drink too many fluids, so when we first start somebody on our program, we do another test, even before we do the resident frequency test called body composition analysis, which uses bio-impedance, so that we can see exactly what your body is made up of, we look at cellular water, hydration levels, body fat percentage, muscle mass, visceral fat levels, which will give us a metabolic age.
So five years ago, when I first found this program, I was in my 60s metabolically, even though I had just turned 50 now, because of the techniques and the tools that I've learned throughout my entire career, but especially the last five years, I'm in my 20s metabolically, so my goal for my clients is to redo that testing periodically, make sure that a person's not losing any muscle, which is what most weight loss programs, to make sure the water is actually coming up so that that cell is getting healthier and more hydrated. And then we wanna make sure that you're only losing body fat, this role, that when those numbers go in the right direction, when we re-test them every single week, you're gonna be younger metabolically every single week on the program.
That's really, that's great. And again, more energy and everything that all the great things that go along with that.
Absolutely. And so in the past 25 years of your practice, what are the main challenges you've seen with people overcome in order to get healthier?
What we started with at the beginning of the podcast, misinformation, especially in the United States, unfortunately, we know that there's just a lot of powers that be that are telling us how to eat because they're gonna make more money if we eat their food... Without getting more into it. Trying to stay politically correct.
So we've been told to eat a lot of sugar and grain, and we know from a scientific clinical viewpoint that that's not the best thing for our body, our body thrives on healthy fats like avocados and coconut oil, academies and lots of clean organic vegetables and a little bit of protein, but not a lot.
So the problem is, is that people have misinformation and they're told to eat things that we now know scientifically are not good for us, you know a lot of grain and a lot of carbohydrates aren't good for us, really insulin. It's almost impossible to lose weight when you're eating what we're told to eat based on the food pyramid, which just isn't accurate, and we've also been told that fat causes heart attacks, and that's not true, that's been debunked years ago, fat does not cause heart attacks, sugar and carbs create inflammation in the body, which is really why most people get sick, most illnesses are due to inflammation as its base, and that inflammation is gonna be expressed in autoimmune stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's, you name it, but inflammation is the key, so you wanna control the release of insulin versus glucagon, and the best way to control that is how you eat and vary eating what you eat on a regular basis, so that your body is getting all kinds of different things and never being stuck in the same routine, which creates a weakened body that's not strong and resilient.
You had mentioned with the avocados and the coconut oil and all those academia nuts and everything, and you're really teaching people obviously how to eat healthier and really, it's been eye-opening in just listening to you here, have you just seen of these people transform... What has been a big transformation, what... Do you have any examples of a huge transformation for any of your clients?
Yes, I see them on a daily basis, but the thing that I think I love to see the most is bringing in a diabetic client, so we talked about the cell wall and the hormone receptors, so insulin receptors are on the cell wall.
So most people with Type 2 diabetic type 2 diabetes, you've heard the term insulin resistance, when you hear that term resistance, insulin resistance or weight loss resistance, that's a hormone receptor issue, so if you just change your diet but you don't clean the body out and get the body healthy at a cellular level and heal that cell wall and get those receptors turning on again, you're never gonna take care of diabetes, so within two to four weeks on my program, 999% of my diabetics, I would say 100, if they actually follow the program to the T are no longer diabetics, and I know that's a huge statement to make, but I can make that statement in full confidence because I've seen hundreds of diabetics in my practice go through my program, no longer be a diabetic, 'cause we now healed those receptors, and now insulin can bring glucose into the cell and the blood sugar doesn't go up, and we teach them how to eat healthy long-term so that they never get the illness back again.
Well, that's amazing.
A couple more questions, how does the intermittent fasting combined with a ketogenic diet and that potentially kill cancer cells, eliminate seizures, treat metabolic diseases. I know you talked about diabetes, which is amazing, but effectively combat other neurological disorders and that nutritive diseases. Can you talk a little bit about that? Parkinson's, Alzheimer's?
Yes, so Thomas free is a scientist, PhD, who wrote a book recently called cancer as a metabolic disease, and we have tons of literature and clinical studies on fasting, hundreds of... At least 100 years of research on fasting, and the research shows us that when you do just one seven-day water fast a year, you kill off 99% of the cancer cells in your body.
Auto Warburg in the early 1900s, received a Nobel prize for his work on cancer, and he discovered way back when, even though... Supposedly, we don't have a cure for cancer, right? Mm-hmm. But he discovered way back when that cancer cells thrive off of sugar, they grow off of sugar, so when you change to a Cadogan IC diet variation where you're doing intermittent fasting, but also doing Carlo low days and alternating back and forth between sugar-burning and fat storage, you starve those cancer cells, so there's been tons of research on Alzheimer's, on epilepsy, and we know that we're in that fat-burning state and we control those sugar levels, the cancer cells cannot survive, they die off, so it's a perfect way to address somebody that wants to keep that disease from coming into their life or if they've been diagnosed, the best thing to do immediately is to get on to a pedigree diet.
Well, the technologies and... Thank you, that's fascinating. And we hear more and more about that, which is promising to... Yes.
Why, how... Some scientists have been calling the ketogenic diet then longevity diet.
I don't know if I would actually say ketogenic, but I would say more Cadogan, Carling, diversion ketosis. So it's all of it. And longevity is, if we look back at our ancient civilizations, ancient civilizations had diet variation, and we had low calorie many, many times.
So now in the United States, industrialized nations, we just give ourselves way too much food and it's killing us, so when we go low calories, we've got tons of analysts animal studies along with human studies that prove that reducing calories actually is neuroprotective and actually extends the longevity of our life along with the quality of our life, so it's actually better to have two few calories rather than too many, but again, it's all about diet variation.
Well, this has been fascinating information, thank you so much for your time, and we look forward to having you on again, but in the meantime, you can catch more of Dr. Banker on her website, Peavey, and let me spell it out at Pura Vida well, well, dot com and learn more about her passion for healthy living, and we look forward to our next visit.
