Educating. inspiring people to live healthier lives.
Absolutely.
Well, today we are talking about digestion and how we can make things what we go down smoother and... Well, this is a very interesting topic. So, Dr. Canale, it seems like more and more people are having digestion problems and why do we think that's the case? Well, a long time ago, what did people do when they ate, they basically were hunters and gatherers, and basically they didn't really have established meal times, they were doing their work and then they'd grab an orange, an Apple, they would basically kill their prey and eat it right then and there, so if they weren't feeling good, they ate a liver, and if they were feeling a little weak, they ate an adrenal, and that's what really people did, is they ate raw, uncooked live food, they didn't have microwaves and now we have everything in a box processed, denatured, active, pasteurized. And by the end, what you get through with it is dead food... Well, the body doesn't stay alive and function well with dead food, and so also not to mention the toxins and the chemicals and the additives that are all present in the food that we eat, and so we've gotta get back to basics. We've gotta get back to the foods that have been naturally been put on this Earth... Just the way it was back then. What's the difference... Now we're gonna talk way down deep end to digest this right now at Harper and gird as it reflects the feeling that food when it gets stuck... Let's break it down.
Well, let's talk about why even... Why do I even get these digestive proms... We talked about the dead food, but I tell people there's several things, we take antibiotics a lot, now we go to the doctor, we have a little flu, we have a little favor, we have a little coffee, get antibiotics. So when people take antibiotics, they kill all their good bugs, and so our good bugs are supposed to be there, and so I tell people you basically have digestive problems 'cause of four things, but drugs, mood, and food. Those four things. Okay, so the bugs... What are the bugs? What could be parasites? It could be a bacterial organism, it could have been killing all your protour... Good probiotics with antibiotics. Okay, so that's it. So you gotta make sure you don't have any bugs around in your body, then drugs, look at all the drugs that people take, they all cause... If you look at any drug and you look in the physicians desk reference, every single drug has some sort of gastrointestinal side effect, it could be nausea, it could be diarrhea, it could be constipation, it could be breaking, breaking and creating more bleeding, it could be destruction of mucosal barrier, it is serious and like everyone taking anti-inflammatories like NSAIDS, Advil, I leave... My goodness, you are breaking down to your stomach lining, your colonic empathy, and people end up in the hospital every year having taken aspirin and Advil and the NSAIDS, the more powerful, the Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and all the anti-inflammatories that get Celebes, that people get for pain and you will pay a price. And so you can lump the strongest Rouge reflux disease, they call GERD, and you can do reflex... Well, one of the things is this dominance, you chew your food, it passes down the two called the esophagus, and then once the esophagus is connected to the stomach... Well, the interesting thing about the sofa, the esophagus does not have a protective layering, so if you eat food that is processed dead and you're taking medication, you cause this reflux and it goes back into the PaaS and you get this burning sensation.
So that is called the gastroesophageal reflux disease, then you can get... To the reflux, you can get... They're all different names, but basically they're all malfunctions in the oesophagus, not having good lining, and then the stomach having... You could have a pylori. H-Pylori is a bug that is probably responsible for 30, 40% of ulcers, and the older you get, the more predisposed you are going to be to H Pylori, and then people... What do they do is they take an assets and well, the stomach is supposed to have acid, the pH of your stomach, and the only place in the body, 'cause we've talked about acidosis before, is your stomach is supposed to be acetic and... Why is it supposed to be acidic because it's to break down the proteins, absorb the minerals, and guess what, kill all the invading organisms like a cold, like parasites, like bacterial infections, etcetera. And as we age, and now it's starting earlier, I see younger and younger people, 'cause the more dead food and cook food you eat, the more Harcourt as you need, and you don't produce the Hydrocodone as well because you've gotta have nutrition there to create those cells to make hydrochloric acid. And so you take an essay, you turn off the complete production of hydrochloric acid, and what do you do, you just cause more and more decrease absorption of all your vitamins and your minerals and any bugs, so you're now... You're open, pray to anything now, to any disease, not to mention just the infectious diseases, but any illness.
So the worst thing for us to do is pop in an asset, whether it's the purple pill or the over-the-counter Anta or a prescription drug given by a medical doctor.
Now, sometimes I am not going to say that sometimes you need to put the fire out first and then cure the problem, and that's the beauty of integrative medicine, integrating conventional medicine with alternative or integrative or holistic therapies, because you get to the root cause of the problem. And I explain to patients all the time, and I've done, you know, stomach problems, reflux proms for many years, there's very few people that I corrected completely off and acids with treating the problem. And so you correct the problem, get the stomach to start making a adequate Clarice acid. Giving people things like Alabama, they have great lever products at mothers, that's wonderful. They have a thing called heartburn, ease at mothers that is beautiful, and it's not something that they have to take forever, they take it for six to eight weeks and they have cured their problem, now, let's just say they go back and eat food that really doesn't work for them doesn't like them, then you're going to increase your risk of getting these re-flog, these stomach issues, I call them general stomach issues, they have all different names, but it's really one and all the same things 'cause they're all caused by the same thing, but the worst thing, the message I wanna get out because so many people do this is that they take these and assets that are so deleterious to your health, and there are other ways of conquering this issue, and we've got to go back and eat foods that are great for that's a beauty about mothers, his mother has a plethora of wonderful fruits and vegetables and live food for all of us to choose from, and we live in California, if you live in Wisconsin, all this food is not as available, but here we have it all beautifully available.
Right, so just basically go back and be good to her, you know... Yeah, the acid blockers, when you keep giving it to ourselves and we just pile it up and pile it up where it just is a constant battle.
Yeah, this is great information, Dr. Canale again, you are amazing to talk to, we're gonna take a quick break, but when we return, we have more insight on how we can improve our digestion. Welcome back to the mother's radio show, and now we wanna take the time to remind you that if you missed any portion of today's show, you can download the podcast from our website, mother's market dot com, that filling for the radio podcast. To listen to our past shows, plus you can always download our Healthy Recipes and money savings coupons, all available at mothers market dot com. And now back to our interview with Dr. Canale. We're talking about digestion. So let's talk about food. Doesn't have anything to do with digestion issues or... Does digestion get passed down from one generation to the next? Well, digestion issues do get passed down because you usually learn how to eat with what your mom... That one, exactly.
And so unfortunately, it's not genetics, other than the culture of your family that you might... That really... It brings it down. So I don't think it's so much, 'cause I tell people always, genetics does not determine destiny, and so if you were to change everything that you were to do with your children, you would be changing the culture of your family.
So if you look at the Chinese, the Chinese have really... For right now, they haven't always enjoyed this, but they have low cancer rates, but if you look and examine what they eat, they eat really, really lots of vegetables, and even the kids... Do the kids eat lots of vegetables, they don't eat rice because here in the United States, that's an American thing to a rise in a Chinese restaurant, but in China, they eat vegetables and they eat lots of vegetables, they do eat me, chicken and fish, and fish scales and all kinds of things that you could possibly imagine that I would never be on the menu here, an American restaurant, but they've enjoyed the lower cancer rates, now that's all going to change because sugar and the basically... The whole revolution of China now is completely different with the introduction of more Americana, thanks. Vast food and sugar. And McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
So things are changing and cancer is growing, so I don't wanna say that digestion diseases are necessarily transmitted, because I think if you were to start early with your children, feeding them foods that were vital and keep them alive with load with vitamins and minerals enzymes, you wouldn't have Digestive Diseases. It's clearly a fact, when you eat things that have no nutritional value, there is no way the digestive system can function, and what is the digestive system? The digestion system starts with first, your food, what you're picking as your food, and second of all, you chew your food, it starts in your mouth, and enzymes are produced in your mouth and enzymes can't be produced if you're not healthy, and so then this food, after you chew it, and believe it or not, we don't chew our food anymore, we inhale our food, and so we have got to take a few moments to sit down and enjoy the process of eating and be conscientious of how this food is gonna nourish and strengthen our body and in fact, I wanna bring that to a point, what is food? Food is a substance that nourishes and strengthens and heals the body, and so if we ate the food that did that, we would not be in the dilemma disease that we are dealing with today. And so going back to the digestive system after we... You chew this food. How many times are... We spoke to the food probably about 20 times, if you're really, really, really sick, I tell people 30 times, each bite should be 30 times and it should be a liquid, then it passes down through the muscular esophagus and propel down to the stomach, and then after the stomach, you have de-liver and gall bladder that do their people forget that the liver and Goulet are part of digestion, they have to detoxify, they've gotta add enzymes, they add bits, ll intestines, and then after the small intestines, you have the large intestines, and then you have the rectum, so that's the entire digestive process, it's a very, very elaborate process, but guess what, nothing else works, your brain doesn't work, your liver doesn't work, your kidney doesn't work, nothing else works if you don't have an excellent digestive system, so we can't minimize the value and the process is involved here, you know what I appreciate you describing that digestive system, you know, I just break that down because people don't really ever think about that, what it takes to to your food and what happens to that process, so... Thank you.
Great, I appreciate that.
No, it's something we just all take for granted, we do take for granted that we're gonna go to sleep and wake up and everything's gonna be like in a Telehealth, like that doesn't... It doesn't... So no, thank you, Dr.
Canale, you know what, what type of digesting issues do you see in your office?
Well, as we talked about earlier, the heart burn, the gastroesophageal reflux disease, we see a lot of that, and more and more we're seeing a lot of colitis of... They call it cronies, as far as I'm concern is all about the same thing, but Crown's Disease, irritable bowel and all sort of colitis and all kinds of things. Parasites people think of God parasites and Dr. other doctors go, Oh no, you... We live in the United States of America, we couldn't possibly have parasites... Well, believe it or not, parasites by the World Health Organization is the number one cause of death in the world.
Really, the number one cause it does in the world is parasites, well, we're not... We think we're the only people in the United States alive. Well, guess what, India and China are the bulk of the world. And so there are a tremendous amount, and there's over 500 different species of parasites, so we all probably have at some point in time, have had parasite, sometimes your body can naturally eradicate and get rid of them, and a lot of times you may need medication that's in one place I don't use herbs, our natural therapies, I use medication to eradicate parasites.
Now, the other chronic conditions, all sort of colitis and IBS is like, I don't know what you have.
So you get the label of IBS, so the patient comes in and they go, You know what? They're killing. I've been told I have IBS and I said, Well, you know what that means. The doctor doesn't know what's going on, so... But the bottom line is, we have to go along to the according to the laws of Mother Nature.
And that's the problem, we are consistently breaking the rules of Mother Nature and expect that our body is going to work, and that is not going to work, and the more you break the laws, it's just same thing, if you don't step with this upside, well, what's gonna happen, I use this all the time. Because what's gonna happen? You can get away with it, not go on, we've all gotten away with not stopping in the subset, but you will pay, and that is what I try to educate my patients, do you have to think about having a body that is perfect plant balance in this healing itself on a day-by day, hour by hour, or cancer patients, I come in and I tell them, I want you to say to yourself, I'm getting better and better every day in every way, because you have got to be mindful and conscientious of what you are doing in order to have a healthy body, it is not something automatic, and we have to ingest the substances, the right, the correct substance is we can't continue to eat devil dead pasteurized food is... It's not gonna happen. That is not according to how the body works, the body has a sophisticated biochemistry, and we have to embrace it and learn how to work with and into it, and I'm only gonna say you're gonna gonna be perfect all the time, you're not gonna be perfect. Nobody here on the planet and cleaning myself is perfect, but I follow the kind of the 90-10 rule. 90% of the time you're embracing these principles and 10% of the time you're having fun, and if you do something bad, try to do something good.Respect it, yes.
Good, Okay, so what can you do to prevent digestion issues, I know you've given us... Well, that's one thing, but let's talk about one area that we should touch upon, I think that's very good, and this is probiotics, and probiotics are so important because probably one of the number one drugs that we use are antibiotics that traditional doctors and myself included, sometimes I use antibiotics. I really try not to, and most of my patients come to me, they don't want to use antibiotics, but anti-means against and bios means life, and probiotics pro means for... And bios means life.
So these are for your life.
Now, what do these probiotics do? Well, these probiotics are amazing creatures, there's about five pounds of probiotics in your intestines, and you used to get them in your food, but now we don't get them in our food because everything is killed with chemicals, so all the probiotics that we used to have 50 years ago, we don't have because they're killed by the process that they are growing in, so we've gotta take them... So you either take them by mouth, mother's brand of probiotics happens to be one of the best brands of probiotics, it's very, very good. There are other brands of probiotics that are very good, and then a very natural source of probiotic is fermented food, fermented food, or what is fermented food? fermented food is food that is alive and active and it has a natural source of probiotic, it's a very available food, so let me give you an example, an example of sour crop, sour Crow is wonderful fermented food and it's wonderful for your system. The other thing that you can get, and I recommend a lot of patients with irritable bowel and crowns and all sort of like you can make your own key for, but a lot of people don't have the time or energy or interest, but you can buy keeper and there's lots of different keepers, you always should be organic, if you're allergic to dairy, the best kind of keeper Dubai is coconut keeper, and you do that every single day. You will notice a difference, it's amazing how many patients I have with gastro reflux disease or ulcers or pain or whatever, and I have him drink Olivera, and they're just always come back and they go, I just can't believe to different... It's like a miracle darter Canale on. I'm like, Oh my god, something that's been around for centuries. Okay, and it works. It's amazing, and he doesn't hurt you when it has all these other beneficial tribe person and so anyway, because let's face it, you've got to understand the foods that don't like you, and there are doors that you may be allergic to, like milk, the top four allergies, their milk, wheat, corn, and sugar.
So I tell people I do a test disk continuum for two weeks and see how you feel. If you feel better than you know, you probably have a problem with those foods, but getting good to probiotics, probiotics are... We have to do... We have to adjust those. You have to do is one of the most life-saving things you can do because it helps your immune system, it's phenomenal for detoxification, plus it helps make other vitamins in your body, so probiotics are absolutely essential to your nutritional program.
You say probiotics also, you say you can get them at mothers too, if you were to not get the fermented foods too, so let's talk a little bit about getting them probiotics, others, what kind of probiotics... Like if I were to just go in there and say, I wanna get provided some others with... Well, that's a good question, 'cause people say, Well, I get forming ones in the refrigerator, Dr. Canadian mothers, and I get this, but I have to say that the mother's brand probiotic, people love it, it works. They say it works the best out of all the ones that they've tried now, there are other good probiotics at mothers or I've used, there's different ones, and you have to look for the number of organisms, if you're really sick, you wanna get the higher number of probiotics like the 50 billion Probus, and you may need to take them for a couple of more than once a day, 'cause not everybody's gonna drink Keeper, let's face it, and not everybody's gonna be target... Let's base it on Camacho forbid.
Anyway, so we have to have... We have to have these pills, people like to pop a capsule, that's the American way, and so we have to... But there's lots of different... I have to see lots of different brands, you don't necessarily have to get the refrigerator section, I'm not saying it's not good or anything, but it's not as easy to do, and things are in their frigate, you forget, and so you have to make things that's gonna be user-friendly for yourself.
But bottle probiotics, there's several different companies, Renew Life, I've used that a lot of times I use in the clinic. And you know, I have to say there's not, there's just, there's lots of different brands and they're probably all beneficial, but look for the higher... If you're really ill, look for the higher... And let's say you don't take them every day, let's say maybe you can't afford it every day, but every other day... Okay. Again, yeah. Home run you. It's always fascinating to talk to you and just... We can just pick your brain forever Dr.
