And we welcome him to the mother's market radio show, Dr. Mitchell, how are you? I'm doing great, thanks for having me.
Thanks for being here. Why don't you fill our audience in a little bit on your mission and your work before we get to today's topic, you know... Absolutely. Professionally speaking, I was very blessed with the ability to have the opportunities in the natural products industry that I did, but at a certain point, you have an evolution in your life, something changes, and I had an interaction with the disease in my body, and instead of... I guess laying down and taking it partly, I used it as an opportunity to inspire me to look in a different direction, and after talking with my family, we broke away, and that's when I resigned from Country Life to really actually go and do something that was more mission-driven, it was something really related to my life and what was happening to me, and it's why I found it problem, which was based on digestive health, 'cause the issue that I was facing with a challenge of my digestive system called Astra of colitis, and so it became a mission of inspiration and infusion became part of that as well, because, you know, these products didn't cure me, but what they did do is that they offered opportunities of healing and balancing and so forth to the body that truly made a major difference and played a significant role, not only in my recovery, but to accentuate my inspiration, to pass this on to other individuals that maybe they just wanna learn more, maybe they want really good products, but we know now that we're producing some really great products that are... We believe changing lives, so we're very excited, I love that passion, and I love that you've done something to share with others.
Absolutely, so today we're talking about the hemp revival and your company. So the Hampson, why is him becoming such an exciting topic... We know he's been becoming an exciting topic for many years, it was about, I think about 10 years ago, but I could be wrong on that. You started to see hemp protein products, and then from there, you started to see products that were... Where they were taking the seeds and extracting the Omega-3 6 and 9 fatty acids from the seeds, and then you saw them using the hemp seeds, some of the cake from the hemp seas fiber, and so it was really becoming part of the diet they were using dietary supplements to introduce these unique compounds, a hemp, and so it was really awesome.
And then they started looking at other parts of the plant, and the most exciting thing about it now is that much like you have vitamins and minerals and antioxidants as these classifications of nutrients that many different dietary supplements and multi-vitamins and all things have been developed on the backs of... There's a new science emerging about this classification of nutrients that are inside hemp called phytoecia INO IDs, and one of the ones that are getting a lot of the attention is one of them is called the CBD or Canadian, but there's over 100 of them, over a hundred of these phocion IDs that have been currently identified and probably many more to come, so it's just a really exciting time because the research is leading us down a path that's showing that hemp has true possibilities for human health support, and so we're really excited about him. Well, that is exciting. What is him? I guess that's what you're just talking about, that CBD, is that what it is that's driving a lot of this excitement, I would say that from a media perspective and from an advertising perspective and from a release of current research, CBD has been getting the primary attention right. Now, because it's the one Pitcairn ID that made it on the Sanjay group to show on CNN called weed weed one, two and three, and it was a show exposing how the use of certain components, one of which mainly CBD can be truly effective for all kinds of different really amazing things. And so I think CBD got a lot of the initial attention, we believe that there is so much larger of a story to tell, these photo Cannabinoids, I believe will create a, I guess you could say a virtual revolution of information that is gonna lead to such amazing possibilities, but the primary goal that it does is help the body to maintain balance or homeostasis, so all these wonderful ingredients, much like we got excited about anti-oxidants decades ago, well, this is just a new classification and nutrients and people are just super excited because the possibility is seemingly endless.
So Can you unwrap a little bit what those hyacinth are? Yes, cannabinoids. Like I was saying, Any oxidant, vitamins and minerals. So when you were to look, if you were to look at any food, let's say a tomato in tomatoes, you find Lycoming in all kinds of fruits and vegetables, you'll find minerals and vitamins and minerals... Well, it just so happens that in him, but not only him, by the way, there are other botanicals and foods, things like Echinacea flax and so many different plants, kranti clove and black pepper that contain these cannabinoids, and these cannabinoids are unique nutrients that believe it or not, even from their plant source, when taken can actually give support to the body, and they work directly with a system inside the body to restore balance or homeostasis. And so what do they do or what are they? I should say cannabinoids are kinda like a hemp-based vitamin, if you will, that supports a unique system in the body, they can be really complicated or really simple, but the fact is, is that they're a broad spectrum of interesting nutrients that work together inside the body to support it and restore balance.
All natural, obviously.
Absolutely all natural.
And so how did these cannabinoids work in the body, so you're talking, they work with our body, but once there, once we adjust them, how... How do they work?
Yeah, yeah, no problem. There's a system that was identified inside the body not too long ago, roughly a little over two decades ago, researchers identified that inside of our body, we have something called the endocannabinoid system, and of course, they named it after the plant cannabis and so forth. So that's probably how it got its name, I don't think that was really the exact... I think that's just what they ended up calling it, but the endocannabinoid system is something that is already in your body, and it is an intricate distribution of all these different receptors all over the body, you have certain receptors called CB1 that exist in the brain and the central nervous system, and then you have these other receptors that are called CB2 receptors, and they exist more in the peripheral nervous system, and they in the immune system organs and so forth, and these different receptors all over the body... Are there for one purpose? I tell a lot of people all the time is that I say Your body, you have free will to do with your body, whatever you want, you can eat poorly or well, you can live poorly, Live Well, you can try to embrace stress or do something about the stresses in your lives, we have choices, but when it comes to survival, your body has an instinct, and the instinct is, is that it must survive and it will do whatever it can to survive, and restoring homeostasis or balance is probably one of the core competencies of the body's ability to try to restore this survival feature, if you will.
So this endocannabinoid system, when you look at how it works, the body produces... Inside the body produces different types of cannabinoids that help to work with these receptors, but when we're not able to produce what's necessary, getting sources from different foods to help support the body, we'll give it an ability to support this balance, and I know it sounds... It sounds kind of silly that we're talking about balance, but when you think about it, if your body is out of balance, it's heading in a bad direction, it may be heading in a direction that won't be so good for you, but it's... When you can restore homeostasis or balance that, you can have really good results from so many different health perspectives, if you think about... If you ever have one of those days where you're just having an awesome day, everything is going exactly as planned, like it was perfectly a balance day, that day is a really rewarding data and you feel really healthy and your body is really responding well, but when you have those days that drag you in a different direction where stress or maybe you're not sleeping correctly, or maybe your digestive system isn't working right, when you can do something that helps to restore homeostasis and balance that covers all these different areas, you begin to put your body right back on the right track. And so the endocannabinoid systems primary goal is to look at all these different challenges that you may be facing in helping you to restore that homeostasis or endocannabinoid system balance.
So it's pretty cool actually.
Can you talk a little bit about what forms that... How can we injustice or how do we take that... What forms of hemp?
Well, believe it or not, when you look at him, that's out there, they're in all forms of snacks, you can find them on the seeds are used in all kinds of different snatchers, there's even a company out there that sells him parts and stuff like that, which are heart of the seeds. And so it's really delicious, but you can also take oils that exist with inside the stock or the seed, and these oils are what contain a lot of these valuable, amazing photocopies that nutrient-ly can actually work with your body and helping support that balance. And CBD is definitely one of those cannabinoids, and it exists inside the oils. We're gonna talk a little bit more about that. We have to take a quick break, but stay with us more with Dr. Jason, in just a moment. Really great information.

And now back to our interview with Jason Mitchell, and we're discussing the hemp revival and your company emphasis, and we were talking in the break about the legal aspects of hemp, and if you're navigating through these waters... Absolutely. When it comes to him, there is these legal questions, and people rightfully have the right, they should be questioning, they should be concerned with whether or not the products that they're being presented, whether or not they're legal, and even before we actually made our first product, we spent two years on navigating these legal waters, because here's our mission, our mission is that we believe these products have future and present and future benefit for people that take them, we know that more research needs to be done, but we want them to have a lawful and rightful access to them ongoing into the future forever. And we also as a company, wanna be good corporate citizens, we don't wanna find a loophole, we wanna make sure that we respect our government, we respect the laws that are in place, and do our very best to make sure that we abide by them.
You know, we may not all agree with the speeding limit in a particular street, but yet abiding by... It means you don't get a ticket. But if you don't, you're likely to get one some day, so the reality is, is that we simply wanna make sure that our products are legal and so that a vast majority of people can feel comfortable and assured and confident that what we're doing is right and how we did... This was when looking at the industry and the laws that are in place, there are two prevailing laws that make it possible for it to either be legal or make it possible for it to be prohibited in illegal and The first laws, the Controlled Substance Act. And you know very clearly in the early 1970s when this law was put together, there was a definition that for something called Industrial Hemp, and if you're following that guideline, you're gonna know that it's not criminal now, currently, there are some organizations that are choosing to follow the agricultural Act of 2014, nicknamed the Farm Bill sub-section 7606. and they basically talk about there where they expanded the definition of hemp to include other parts of the plant that were previously prohibited, and a lot of people are trying to legitimize the product based on those laws now that law... Well, the problem with that is that Li expanded the definition of industrial hemp for research purposes, but not for retail, because they have acknowledged that hemp is valuable and they want people to research it more so that we can learn more about it that maybe it could possibly be future medicine and future treatments and things of that nature, and that's the purpose of it, but see, some people wanna augment that into saying it gives them license to sell it and use the parts of the plant that were previously prohibited. The fact is that's not true. The Controlled Substance Act is very clear on what is allowable and that is the prevailing law that the DEA will use to enforce, so we, being good corporate citizens, we explicitly follow the Controlled Substance Act, and we have had expressly, really good legal compliance guidance from really well-known lawyers, lawyers that are not really in the hemp industry, they're actually in the compliance part of the industry of saying, this is what's right and This is what's wrong, in our law firm has just been a blessing to us because they've really guided us now the second thing is, can you sell, once you've gotten over the hurdle on whether or not it's criminal, can you sell what you have as a dietary supplement? Well, you know, there's a law that was in place in 1994, and it's called Dash, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, and it very specifically spells out what can or cannot be sold in a dietary supplement, and prior to 1994, any ingredient that was already being sold as a dietary supplement can continue to be sold, any ingredient introduced after 1994, it would obviate them to submit documentation to the federal government, the FDA, so that they can review it and either object to it, which they have their right, or are simply no objection which allows you then after a certain waiting period to move forward, but see the challenges, drug companies have decided they wanna own some of the space in the CBD arena, and so they file documentation with the FDA, and once a drug filing is made, it actually love escalates the amount of validation that you would have to have in order to allow you to sell it as a dietary supplement, I can remind people that maybe remember this, is that back many years ago, Redis Rice went through this because it had an ingredient in there that supported to healthy cholesterol, but the ingredient then was owned by the drug industry now known as a statin drug, and so reduce Rice went through somewhat of this many years ago, and so when you look at this, people are isolating this one CBD compound and drug companies are rapidly trying to gobble up and make sure they have the right to it, and then that prevents... You selling it as a dietary supplement. But what we looked at and said, Well, the only way that we can truly allow this as a dietary supplement is you know what, the one area that the FDA left as an exemption is, is your product food, and if it is, can you prove that it's being consumed by a human population in this beautiful world and has been for a long time and... Do you have documentation? Do you have proof? You have exhibits. Do you have everything?
So we spent quite a bit of time showing that our raw material, because our mission was always whole food, we showed that our mission was food, and we proved that this oil that we use is not an isolated CBD, it is not some super standardized extract or anything of that nature, or any crystalline form, we showed that it was an oil being used as a food product and being sold to humans for many, many years, and by that virtue, we were what was called NDI exempt, and it is a way of showing... 'cause it's in the food and it's in the human population as food... Now, here's the cool thing, a lot of people would look at that and say, Okay, we need to make a material just like that.
Well, even if you make an identical material, if that identical material has not also been sold as food in that... 'cause the time is not on your side, you can't invent it today, I would have had to have already been a food has... Our material was already a food, and we have an exclusive on the raw material, so you know, I would say there was a little bit of luck in here, truthfully, but there was some fruitful planning, we wanted to be compliant more than we wanted to make money.
This was a brand built on inspiration, compensation, even though compensation is something we hope comes down the road, but the inspiration of it was that we want to do it right, we want our stores, our retailers to be confident in what we're doing, we want the people that consume it. To feel truly comfortable.
And so that's really the legal compliance standpoint, is that we would settle for nothing, and now we have a legal lane that is so unbelievably placed that we believe were likely the only company that has truly navigated the waters this way. And so we look forward to a really bright future of really reviving
