Hello, I'm Kimberly king, and welcome to the mother's market radio show, a show dedicated to the Truth, Beauty and Goodness of the human condition. On today's show, we're going to talk about the many uses of hemp, there are several ways hemp can improve your life, so stay tuned that you may be surprised.
We'll tell you what's happening around town and give you a chance to win a 100 gift card, but first step, we're happy to welcome a new guest on the show, certified clinical nutritionist, Jeff Von Deaton. That's a fun name to say. He's been a health food advocate for his entire life, a vegan for over 20 years, deaf is also a cancer survivor and has over 12 years of in-depth behavioral health experience and counseling, he's here today to discuss the benefits of him, and we welcome him to the mother's market radio show. Jeff, how are you?
I'm good, I'm good. How are you... Five things. Well, for those in our audience that may not be familiar with your mission and your work, why don't you fill them in before we get to today's topic.
Okay, just to try to provide people with really awesome products and constantly add things both to my own product line into the industry that just help people have an awesome quality of life and just gives them an even better choice of anything that you had before and makes the industry better, not just a better product, but hopefully makes the industry itself better.
Well, of course, today we're talking about the benefits of him, and Let's... I guess start with what is hemp?
It's just a plant that's a cousin to flex, there are certain nuances that they have that are smarter, obviously not the same plant, but just with the same type of versatility, they have tons of... Each of them offers good healthy fats and hemp is extremely versatile, there's hundreds of varieties of it, everywhere from ditch weed to certain strains and things, people probably know more for the medical recreational portion of it, as well as the industrial and nutritional strains. There's about four dominant styles of seed, it has all kinds of cool stuff going for it, as you mentioned a wide range of views on this topic, so I guess let's get started little more on the background about you, and I want you to talk about being... Your experience as a vegan, can you discuss your background in human services and holistic medicine?
Yeah, I have over 12 plus years in human services. So I feel like I'm very fortunate. I've had a huge range of demographics and people that I've had that I consider it a blessing and the opportunity to have worked with... I worked in a crisis intervention and with abused and neglected children ages 40 to 13 for about almost four years.
Yeah, and that... We're working with him is awesome. And I enjoyed that a ton, I've worked with people that were living with HIV and AIDS for about two low-income seniors for about... In about a year and a half to another two years doing case management, like meal assessment to see if they qualified for help from the state, you sound like a very special person and with a very diversified background, and I'm wondering, in all of this period of time that in your background, were you always a vegan and have you... You have learned a lot in your habits of your eating habits.
Oh yeah, absolutely. It was something consistent during the whole time that I worked with them, and I come from that kind of background. I played racket ball professionally for seven years when I was a kid, I grew up around all the protein drinks and the ankle weights and the stretches and all that, and that just carried itself forward.
And in my human services work, nutrition was something that I always consistently saw improve people's lives. It was awesome with the kids who were able to clean up some of their eating habits in an informal way, I was allowed to sort of rifle through and work with some of the case managers and how staff to get some of the stuff with preservatives and all the junkie stuff out and the behavioral benefits would correlate with that very quickly, and I think I always tried to work in nutrition into everything that I was doing, sometimes you have to be more subtle than others, and then sometimes it's a little more observational when I work with people that had HIV and AIDS, one of the things that was really great for the people that were health-conscious is that I would see how great that their health would say... You would see after a certain creative time that they would stay very stable, they would stay very well and they would be doing the same cocktail or the same batch of meds that somebody else wasn't, the people that were drinking coke and just their fries and all the rest of that, in the program I worked with was in Laguna Beach, and I will still see people that are former clients, you can't say Hi, you always respect people's confidentiality, and you just go about your life, but I'll still see them, I'll see the health conscious ones walking around and having a good quality of life, and I don't see the people that... It's a bummer, but even within the program, I would always see how much it helped in their quality of life to juice and to eat healthy, and it's really great when you see all the impact that nutrition can have on people's lives.
And for myself, I had always made choices as a vegan, has somebody more health-conscious, just in my own quest for great stuff that I always try to sneak it in in a respectful, compassionate way for any clients that were open to it, to try to just help them, be more awesome. And usually they always like that, well, it's nice to know that you made the difference and that seems to be your role and that's excellent, I try... We talked a little bit about what hemp is, but let me ask you another question, and that is what is promoted you or made you want to start your own product line?
You know, I got to a point in my own self-selection for hemp products a few years back as I was making better choices, and there's things you know in your own inner dialogue that you always try to use to pick stuff, you think, Okay, I know what I want for myself, and things that I want for me, I always love stuff that's hard core, clean, vegan. There are certain companies I was familiar with that I always thought were wonderful, that had always done a great job that led by example, and that had really provided a good... Not template, but just... Yeah, just a good example on how they would approach things and I liked it, and then in myself as I started to get an even better appreciation for all the nuances and all the nutritional benefits and what an amazing plant that it is in terms of properties and for properties that had more correlations to stuff that were really health issues for things like blood sugar regulation and the need for primary minerals for proteins that are easy to absorb, the range and the essential fatty acids, and how wide that spectrum was in GLA and all these different things, I started to just constantly find myself being drawn back to him and how much I really thought that it was an awesome plan, but when I got to the category... I was totally dissatisfied, I was completely frustrated. To me, it would be... It was the same companies that had done the same stuff for years, it was all in plastic, the content, by my standards, was poorly ground, I never saw any innovation, I never saw any improvement, I saw very little passion about whatever anyone was doing, they just put a couple of things out and throw them in some plastic canisters and some petroleum shale bottles, and I was horrified.
I know and my mom's a breast cancer survivor, which was how I had gotten more familiar with the danger of Zeno estrogens and fat to plastic interaction and the different styles of bottles that were out there, and for myself, I had always incorporated that. soest, Rogen and those types of toxins are not good for anybody, but they put someone that is a cancer survivor at a much greater risk, not even a little bit, but a way greater risk for a recurring incidents of cancer, which is too much to really grasp as far as something ethical, I understand manufacturers have to protect their investment, so to speak, and trying to minimize breaking and things, but you have to really weigh health versus business and business consequences, and when I got to him, I was just really, incredibly disappointed. It was all plastic stuff, all plastic shale, regardless of the substance, and I couldn't handle it, I just couldn't take it. And that was when I started to save my money and started to put stuff aside, tried to start doing some good research on different companies and who may be able to provide whether a base material or help me provide a finished product or just everything that would be involved in getting stuff to the shelf, and a couple of years later was when I launched my first two products, and since then it's just been a roller coaster of shenanigans and fun.
I love that again, and I'm sure it has been to teeth.
What are the many benefits of EFS, I guess otherwise known as the essential fatty acids, Boutwell, especially hemp seed oil. Essential fatty acids fit in, they work into virtually every process of every cell in your body, especially they lend themselves very well, just naturally to any type of soft tissue and hormone-related functions, and whether it's like the building of hormones, just anything along those lines. It seems to lend itself very well, it's great for your skin, they just work into virtually every single cellular process in your whole body, there's not a single part that makes up you that doesn't have a little bit of a healthy fat that's in it, to keep it doing what it's doing. And with him, him has... With FAS, it's all about ratio. Every type of the healthy fat has a different ratio of Omega 369, board is very high in flats, very high and three, but getting things in that proper percentage in a way that's either generated on its own or this man-made is really essential to the synergy of all those different chemicals working properly, like you could get something that tie in three, but if it doesn't have 69 at the same time, it's not gonna do the same amount, it'll still have some benefits, but it just won't have the same impact on your health and the I'll always tell people to think of one is like the main part, your engine, the other part is like your transmission, and a third part is like the sparks and the spark plugs, without all of that really in a good synergy.
It's just not gonna do what it should. And with him, the thing that was really unique was... And is that it is, to the best of my knowledge right now, exclusively the only style of healthy fat that you can obtain that is going to... That you could use on its own and have nothing else and not create an imbalance in your body within about 120 to 180 day period there, and that is nothing more than a rephrasing of things that I have learned both from reading and from attending lectures, actually From UDO is awesome. And Freud's choice and floor, those are some of his words, and Dr. Michael Murray says some other really nice things about him in its properties, but the World Health Organization, who I think is a very good unbiased for nutritional information, has said that's the only one that it has the only balanced property that you can use exclusively and not create efficiency, it has that right ratio, and I think that that's amazing. Everything else would have to be balanced out with something else within 120 to 180 day period, which is really important 'cause a lot of people aim and everybody's very well-intentioned, they wanna do things that of course, make them healthy, so they'll aim out, flax.
They'll aim at fish, they'll emit a lot of different stuff, but I don't think a lot of people understand that after a short period of time, you may get really great looking skin, Oops, and it will give you those benefits that you want pretty quickly, and then you get to about 60 days and it's still doing okay about 90, and then you get into 120 and it starts to kinda go away, and at 180 you lose that really pretty skin that it gave you right at first, and a lot of people don't understand why they'll keep doing it usually, but they don't understand why and it's because of that ratio, and because of the balance that has to be maintained systemically in your system, you have to keep those right levels all the time, just like you have to do with your oil and your break fluid in together.
Yeah, it's a very basic, very simple, calm, logical principle, but it's something that I don't think sometimes people really understand, and I love that people are doing things to be healthy at any given time, I just like to see that their efforts actually pay off to the best of their extent, if they're gonna do something, I would really like to see it do as much good as possible.
Excellent, well, we have to take a quick break. It's very interesting information, and right now, we are gonna take a quick break and when we return, we'll have more information on the benefits of hemp, we will be right back. We'll come back to the mother's market radio show, and we wanna remind you, if you missed any portion of today's show, you can find us on iTunes by searching mother's market or download the show from our website, mother's market dot com, click on the link for radio and listen to past shows, plus download our Healthy Recipes and money savings coupons, all available at mother's market dot-com. And now, back to our interview with certified clinical nutritionist, Jeff Von stettin, we're talking about the benefits of hemp. And Jeff, I wanna ask you what kind of reaction you get when you talk about him?
It's mixed, and it just depends on the crowd, it's kind of all over the board. Some people will just associate it, so not always negatively, they'll just associate it in fun or just off the talk with their head with the medical recreational portion, some people will go straight towards the nutritional part and they'll be like, Oh yeah, I love him. You don't have that material every morning or I have it, my kids cereal every morning, some people just know that there's a buzz kind of about it, they'll hear about it and they're like, Yeah, no, you can make some clothes and stuff like that with it, but I mean past that, I don't really know. It's very mixed. Very mixed. And that kind of drives me to my next portion of this, and the next question is politically, what do you think the atmosphere for industrial hemp right now, charge-charged is the best way that I could think because we have so much that's going on in so many different directions you have...
I mean, for a crop that we import, it's one of I believe our top to imported crops right now to the US that's being used for grain and consumables for Canada, it is, I believe their second highest cash crop for their entire nation were their largest importers.
So at a time when we country-wise are looking ways to create more jobs on things that can be done here that will add to the economy and things that people obviously already want, it has quite a lot of activity going in terms of what can we... And can't we do... And we have this conflict between the demand from people that want this in all these different forms, nutritional, industrial, they wanna grow it. Here we have 16 states that have all done their democratic process in voting and getting legislation taken care of, they played by the rules, we have people that have played by the rules, and the DEA has not the refused to issue growing permits. And that's quite a cool, I think, for the way that things are supposed to be done. And we have another bill right now that is in California, SB-676 that would allow them to grow, I think an imperial, Kern King and another, here's one other county that I'm missing, that would allow me to grow it here in California. And I really have high hopes for all of that... Alright, let's talk a little bit about... We've talked about what hemp is, the Hempstead but protein. And what the benefits are?
Oh, goodness. Tons of good stuff. It's one of the top 2 hit proteins. Spirit would be the other. But they have very different properties, they... Extremely different properties. Hemp protein, depending on how finally it's ground, can the funding of the grind, the more protein that there is, it just has tons of stuff going forward, it's a dual burn protein, Edison albumin protein, which is very easily absorbed by the body, for anybody that knows about enzymes and digestible and things, you always want stuff that's really easily absorbed, the more easily absorb, the better, it has about a 98% true digestible ratio, which is kind of an amalgamation of about two to three different evaluating criteria, there's like... I always say it wrong. It's like the PDC AA, it's the protein rating system, which is cool, it has some flaws, the same way that the oral rating does, but it's decent, and it scores high on that and just has a lot of stuff going for it in addition to being a very easily digestible source of protein, and depending on the style of grind, it also has lots of primary minerals, it has lots of essential fatty acids, and it has great blood sugar regulating properties, and it's really rich and potassium and really rich in magnesium. When you look at all of the most common health issues that are out there, like magnesium is one of the huge things that people are deficient in their diet here, healthy fats is something else that people really need, we're not a very healthy fat-friendly society, the way that certain other societies are and the combos of the primary minerals are great for you, they're great for your muscle is great for endurance, just it fits in really well, which, like I said, you contrast it, say with Sperling, which is also awesome.
Has great immunologic properties, great detoxifying properties, and it's very rich in trace minerals, they both have a lot of really cool stuff, but... Yeah, it's just a combo.
Okay, so moving on, I wanna give you a chance to talk about your product line and what you want everybody to know about it, and what is at its core in your product line, what is at its core? Doing things that are not just a step above something else that's available, but trying to make products that are four or five steps past anything else that's out there to just not just make a great product, but to do things in a way that is just so much better than another choice to give people like myself, I always make what I wanna see in the market, and with every single product, it's all something that just wasn't available that prior to me making it, it just wasn't there, and I always try to constantly add things that are so much better at something where the content is superior, cleaner, fresher than other things, the packaging is safer, are more socially responsible, more environmentally responsible, where I don't just keep all the money to myself, there's fiscal responsibility. I give to surfer, I give to Susan G. Komen, there's a couple other things that I try to give to... So I'm not just giving it all to myself, and I started doing that 'cause I thought, Man, if I can do this and said a nice example, what excuse to these other massive companies to you, my hopes were was that I can kinda guilt them and giving more money that's out there, 'cause they have a lot... They got a lot of it, and I'd like to see more of it go to things that I really care about, and all of them are meant to kind of all the products or men to work synergistically and to just provide a cleaner, better choice than anything that's out there, but to also do it at a price that's very class-friendly, I think everybody should have really good quality of how then I would never feel bad about charging anything and everything that I need to to constantly provide a good product to people. I feel that's my responsibility to ensure that things are a price point that allow them to continue to be made, but to also be very middle class friendly and very people-friendly, so that anybody can use at least a couple of them and have a great quality of life, I just think that's a... I don't know, I just think that's a good way to go.
What should we expect to see from you in the future? And what can we find your products, goodness, what should you expect to see...
I think just it goes right with what I just said, I wanna focus a lot of energy and a lot of work on products that show good results to assist with your cellular health as much as possible that you can get into either the mainstream markets or just to make available to people online, I think that's where a lot of my energy lies, and amalgamating all that information that I just mentioned, I'm trying to work on a book for cancer and cancer treatments, that's where a lot of energy's been going...
I can't say free time, but... Yeah, what Preeti know, right?
Yeah, in my alternating types of time, I'm trying to put together a really nice book that that will be kind of like a quick reference guide, a very non-technical, non-threatening book that can give people ideas of things that are out there and things that have really good suggested results that they can at least refer to and kind of flip through and get information, but also to have it in a way that's really easily digestible and would allow them to still make a decision from their gut... To make a gut decision so that they could actually have stuff in front of them in a way that's child and calm and read through it, to make their own decisions about their treatment, 'cause I think people should always go with their gut... It's there for a reason. devoted in you are a gentle force to be reckoned with, and I say that sounds like a dichotomy, but really you are a gentle soul, but you're making a big difference in the world, and I think you wish... Good luck.
Thank you very much for your time and we're looking forward to having you on again. In the mean time, you can learn more about Jeff on your website and more products as well, Jeff's best hemp dot com, that is your website to find out more about the ways hemp can help you, and it sounds like a book in your future as well.
Yeah, we look forward to your next visit. Thank you, me too.
Thanks.
