Great, Kim, it's great to be here, and it's a privilege to share the information that patients and listeners all over the world are wanting to hear. It's interesting, before I even started lecturing at mothers, I was shopping a avatar of mothers for many, probably at least 20 years. So now I'm a regular lecture to patients there and Shoppers there, and it's actually like Disneyland going to others, it's so much fun, and you make quite a name for yourself and more to follow, you have so much information. And for those of you in our audience that may not be familiar with your mission and your work, why don't you fill them in a little bit before we dive into the heart of the show. Yes, I am a medical doctor and like to clarify that because people think if a doctor talks about natural products and nutrition and vitamins, they're probably not a medical doctor, but I am a medical doctor and I was trained conventionally, but I learned that medications were not the... Answer and the cure for a disease that we had to correct the causes of the medical problem, and I found that through vitamins and minerals and nutrients and lifestyle changes, and so now all I do is talk about education, because that's what patients need to do in order to change your condition, you have to understand your condition, so that's why I lecture regularly at mothers to educate patients to empower them to live this wonderful life that it was intended to be with great energy, great quality of life, feeling great every single day.
And that is the key. I so believe instead of just putting a band-aid over something, as far as your philosophy is you find out the root of the problem and how you take care of that into the future.
Now, since this Healthy Heart Month, this is healthy, hard man, we're talking about the preventative measures you can take to ensure that your heart stays strong and healthy, so... A few other questions for you. As we begin this heart healthy month, how do you know that if you have a heart disease... Well, but heart disease is the number one killer, and why is it the number one killer because we usually don't have symptoms of the disease, especially in women, but for men out there listening, they usually have symptoms, they either have chest pain or they have acid indigestion or they feel like there's an elephant sitting on their chest, or they may feel pressure or headache or an unusual symptom, and unfortunately, because it may not specifically be heart-related, they may not go to the doctor and they go, Oh, this will pass, but we really need to take preventive mentors. What are those preventive measures? Well, you need to go to your doctor, make sure you have great blood pressure... What is great? Broad pressure, that's 120 over 80. you need to make sure your cholesterol levels are what they should be, but 50% of the patients who have heart disease have low cholesterol, So cholesterol is just a piece of the puzzle, the other thing... A simple thing to do, very inexpensive thing to do takes maybe five minutes is getting a heart scan, long time ago, body scans were very popular, and part of the body scan was a heart scan, but now you can just focus in on the heart and get a heart scan, it's about 100 to 150, depending on where you go, and it will tell you how much calcification is are in the arteries that feed the heart, so if there's calcification, which means that there's hardening of the arteries, and a fancy name for that is atherosclerosis, and if you have that, then you know you have heart disease, it's a very simple, inexpensive test and the doctor can do something about it to prevent... Completely prevent I... Heart attack or further heart disease, there are also lifestyle evaluation that every doctor should be... Are you exercising? How are you sleeping? What is your diet? All of these things play a factor. How is your stress level? Unfortunately, letter doctors don't spend the time to evaluate a patient's complete health and lifestyle, complete line, body and spirit to adequately help those patients and get them on the right path.
You have said so many things, and first and foremost, this is the fact that you spend the time with the patients, that is so key, and just as you said, you find out what their stress level is... I was gonna ask you if there is a... An age group or male female, is anybody more prone besides the stress and everything we mentioned, is there a key age target that you look at... Well, Ari tell people basically, you have a warranty in to your 40, and at 40 in males and females, lots of things changed, the body does a fabulous job of taking care of itself before the age of fording, but after 40... We have to kick in EastWest King care of ourselves.
Yeah, usually it's a little bit, just little things will make a huge difference, but if you have a family history of heart disease, then you definitely should be plugged in to a doctor to say, Okay, and I always tell patients though, Camp genetics is not destiny. You can change your genetics, so just because your mom or your dad had a heart attack or stroke doesn't mean that you are, but you wanna know the things that you can do to change your life so you don't have a heart attack or stroke or heart disease, related medical problems, what kind of food choices and supplements can people take and what can they put in their body to help prevent that heart disease? Well, the first and foremost thing that I tell every patient with any disease where is your head, we all need to have a positive mental attitude about everything, that's a really good point, isn't it?
Because there is an emotional component to every disease process, no matter what it is, having a cold even... There's an emotional component, right. When you're stressed and you don't feel good, you tend to get sick... Right, right.
So I always tell people the most important thing is get their head in the right place, the second thing, you are what you drink. You need to drink water. The rule of thumb is half your body weight in ounces.
So if you weigh 100 pounds, you need to be drinking 50 ounces, if you weigh 200 pounds, you need to be drinking 100 ounces, you need water after oxygen, the second most important thing you need is water, water is a solution to pollution in your body, so water and not out of plastic water bottles, we know now that plastics contribute to heart disease, they not only contribute to heart disease, but they contribute to diabetes, they also contribute to cancer. That is a known fact.
Now we're talking about, You are what you eat. What are you eating? In my role of them with all my patients, is you have to eat food that is connected to nature, so macaroni and cheese is not connected to nature, donuts are not connected to nature. Pasta, by the way, is not connected to nature, so what does that... How about an apple? About taken... How about wonderful spinach? How about kale and broccoli and people are probably going out there... You said that nutini possibly do properly.
Yeah.
Well, the bottom line is, we have to do this. We are supposed to be eating seven to nine servings of organic vegetables, and I say organic because we need to get rid of the toxins and avoid the toxins as much as possible, and mother is wonderful for supplying local produce, which is fabulous.
Okay, well, great. Well, we are gonna be right back. We're gonna take a break right now, and I thank you so much. And now back to our interview with Dr. kaali, we're talking about your heart and how to keep it strong and healthy, and if you have heart disease, how can you prevent it? What can you do about it?
So first and foremost, we've talked about in the beginning about things that patients can do, we talked about the positive mental attitude and about the water and you are what you eat, and how important the diet is. And then another very important thing is exercise.
Exercise is fabulous. First of all, let's say we all lead stressful lives, we all do... Let's just face it, it's just part of life in this 2010 and exercise for every 30 minutes of exercise, you basically counteract 12 hours of stress, so exercise is not optional, we have to exercise... We have to fall in love with exercise because it's not gonna go away, you have 528 muscles, so that you can exercise, and I always tell patients, think about the end in mind, when you exercise for 30 minutes, don't you feel great and you love that feeling actually of the pain, right?Yohannan, and you feel better. Your mind is clear, your body is moving differently, your day flows differently when you actually see too, and you have more energy, remember, the heart is a muscle, and so you have to exercise it in order for it to work well and function and work for you.
Now, when patients come to me, then they kinda go get an ELA, okay, what do I... What else do I need to do? What else can I do?
So let's talk a little bit about supplements, the most important thing is for you to get on essential fatty acids, they're called essential because your body must have them, but the most important thing you can do, there's fish oils, and then there are vegetarian sources of essential fatty acids like flax seeds, and there's nuts provide lots of oils, you can get oils in wheat germ, there's lots of different vegetarian oils that you can do. One of my favorites is called Kudos organic oils, and those have been around a long time because they have a combination of three different vegetarian source for heart disease patients, though, I highly recommend the officials, what the studies have shown as the officials work best for heart disease and prevention of heart disease. And let's say one of the big things in heart disease is your blood is flowing around like catch up, it's kind of sticky, it's not flowing smooth, you want your blood to flow like red wine, and that's what fish oils or vegetarian as do as they allow your blood to flow like a waterfall, like red wine as opposed to sticky... The catch-up. Yeah, so you were talking about the enzymes and then... Well, let's talk about some of these other heart healthy nutrients. Well, the other hard helping nutrients, first of all, magnesium, magnesium is probably the number one or two most common deficiencies and every human... Well, what is a magnesium to everything? Magnesium drives over 400 chemical reactions in your body, so everyone... Let's say you don't have our disease, you probably need magnesium.
Now, the other heart-held nutrient is coenzyme Q10, and almost everyone over 40 with or without heart disease needs coenzyme Q10, it is the energy molecule and every single one of ourselves, and as we age, we don't make the coenzyme Q10 that we did when we were 20 and 10 years old, so we need to take some conclusively important and cancer prevention.
The other two hard health nutrients are ribose and carnitine, ribs is a special sugar that helps increase the ATP and the energy of all the heart cells, not to mention other cells in our body, 'cause almost when you're helping the heart, you're helping the body as a whole, then Carnitine is one of those wonderful amino acids that helps strengthen the heart, so let's kind of review for our listeners 'cause kind of a lot... We have the fish oils, which is like mandatory with or without heart disease, if you don't take any Supplement, you must take oils, essential fatty acids. fish oils are vegetarian. Then the magnesium, the coenzyme, Q10, the ribs, and the carnitine.
Wow, okay, and thank you for explaining that to our listeners 'cause we have been talking about a lot of different... And those are all it, those are all available and mothers, so patients can write those down and go specifically and request those.
Excellent, we're getting some great information from Dr. canale, and we'll be right back with more ways to help keep your heart healthy. Stay with us, I guess, plus other fine retailers and online at Chino Valley ranchers dot com. Welcome back to the mother's market radio show. And now we continue with more from Dr. Kane.
Well, we've talked about exercise and how important that is, your nutritional supplements and a little bit about diet, but is there anything else that you wanna say about as far as the organic, that seems to be really the key with anything, it's sort of one-stop shopping with your heart with everything. With your health and your body.
Right. Well, let's go back to diet a little bit because I think people are confused and there's... How many dialogs are there?
Wow, there are so many dives, they always sell because unfortunately, in all 50 states across America, over 55% of the people are overweight or obese, which puts tremendous pressure and stress on the heart, so my rule of thumb is that your meal should consist of protein, good carbohydrates and good fats. Every single meal.
How does the average American start their day on... What do they eat?Cereal.
Breakfast.
So I was gonna say yes to it. Or for breakfast? What is cereal? It's a can-do or, well, you can't start your day for the candy bar because all those carbohydrates are broken up just like sugar, so you must have protein, you must have protein. cereal. There is no protein. Now, in milk, there's a little bit... What's going on, milk? What does it say on the box? pasteurized process, homogenized. But the time you get it, there's nothing in it. That's a very good point. So what I use in my household is I buy raw Malcom others, and it is wonderful, it tastes phenomenal, and it has all the nutrients that a lot of the nutrient or body means.
So we have to have protein, we need to have good fats, but what is an example of good fat... Good fat are olive oil nuts, all run nuts except peanuts, and the reason why peanuts aren't good because fungus grows on Peanuts, Peanuts and then there is this bad illness that you can get from eating peanuts, so peanuts are not an option now, and that just says a lot, because of all the peanut allergies that you probably... It seems like it's really come up in recent times, but because of that fungus hunt... Yes, so you can do wrong nuts, then there's other fats, avocados, organic butter. People say, butter butters, okay.
I find this smart butter or this smart margin, we'll look at the label, if the label is too complicated to read and then you shouldn't be buying it, organic butter all as it says it says butter. And the reason why you wanna buy organic, especially in dairy, is because when the animal is exposed to insecticides and pesticides, it concentrates in the dairy part, so you must buy all of your dairy, all of your dairy must be organic, and there are the good fats, rapeseed oil has all kinds of different good oils, you gotta be careful about the oils because olive probably is the best... I do like grape seed oil, macadamia nut oil, coconut oil, those are all fabulous oils... Goal is not a good choice.
Then we talk about the carbohydrates... Okay, what are carbohydrates? Well, you have the bad stuff, which is the goose candies, pies and cakes and cereals, that kind of stuff, then we have the bread rise positive potatoes, those are all metabolized like sugar, so the most... The favorable carbohydrates are vegetables, vegetables, vegetables, so rice is not a favorable carbohydrate, bread is not a favorable carbohydrate, now, there is one bread that has a really good slow sugar index, they call it glycemic index, and that's Ezekiel bread, and it's an organic bread, and it's very very low sugar levels. So that is the bread that I tell patients, I recommend to patients, but you must combine that with a good fat and a good protein every single meal. What are you trying to achieve? You're trying to achieve stable blood sugar levels, because what happens when you each sugar... Well, do you have this wonderful gland called the pancreas, and the pancreas really close to the stomach in the middle of your abdomen, and it makes insulin, and when your blood sugar goes up, insulin is called In the hormone insulin calls in and says, Oh, my blood suckers going up, brings it down because your body doesn't do good with high sugar levels, brings it down... Well, then when you bring it down, it tells your body, it's starving. And what does the body do when it's starving?
It stores fat. So what you're trying to achieve when you eat protein, fat and a little bit of carbs and good carbs in your diet, you keep your blood sugar stable so you don't cause increased risk of diabetes and obesity, and you can always help yourself out no matter what you're dealing with health-wise, for everyone, we talked about exercise, we talked about diet, we talked about healthy mental attitude and your supplements, is there anything else you wanna say out there to kind of tie it up and... Well, people kinda say, Okay, I don't, I get going. What do I do? I tell people, just start now. Now is the time. You can't do anything about yesterday, but you can start now, get connected with someone who you think you can partner with you in your health, whether it's a doctor where there are nutritionists, maybe it's a trainer who has multitude of talents of understanding nutrition. Don't say tomorrow, I'm gonna do it. No, just start now. I love it. That's true. It's a new year new you. Thanks so very much for your time, Dr. kennel, and we look forward to having you on again.
