Mother’s is all about making healthy affordable. At Mother’s, shoppers can expect to find fresh organic produce, an organic juice bar, homemade grab & go, traditional grocery items, wellness essentials (including vitamins, supplements and body care) and a curated selection of beer, wine, and spirits, all at great prices. As you head into the new year and are looking to become the best version of yourself, we believe it’s important to eat well, sleep well, and be well.

Eat well

Many people focus on exercising more in the new year, but eating well is equally important- particularly, eating in a way that’s best for your body and to support your new fitness and lifestyle habits. A healthy diet goes beyond food and includes drinks as well as supplements, as sometimes food alone does not provide all the essential nutrients you need. Goldthread Tonics are a great option to up your nutrient intake. These tonics are refreshing, feel-good drinks made from superherbs, spices, and fresh squeezed citrus. Additionally, HealthForce Superfoods can also provide you with additional nutrients. We particularly enjoy the brand’s Earth Broth, Spirulina Manna, and Vitamineral Green. These products contain superfoods and herbal extracts that can help nourish your body and make up for any nutritional deficiencies.

Sleep Well

It’s important to make sure you are getting enough quality sleep to support your body’s preparation and recovery for workouts, energy maximization, and so much more. Especially quality sleep- is important. For some, this can be very difficult, especially those who naturally are not great sleepers. While there are many ways that you can improve your sleep, such as staying off electronic devices before bed, there are also natural supplement options that may work for you.

Some popular options at Mother’s include Natural Factors’ Tranquil Sleep, Adrenal Serenity, and Suntheanine L-Theanine. These products provide extra support for calmer days and restful nights so that you can fully recharge. Jarrow Formulas also makes supplements that can help you relax, stay calm, and sleep better. Customer favorites include their Calming Day, Soothing Night and Sleep Optimizer.

Be well

While eating well and sleeping well are crucial, there are so many other areas that contribute to overall wellness such as mental health, immune health, skin health and more. While it can be difficult to improve all areas at once, you can start off by focusing on one area and then moving onto another once you’ve established an effective routine. Luckily, Mother’s has products to support the many areas that make up your overall health.

For immune support, great options include Honey Gardens’ Elderberry & Honey Immune Syrup and Elderberry & Honey Immune Drink. Elderberry is known for its antioxidant properties that some say also help prevent and ease cold and flu symptoms. For digestive support, check out Zhou Nutrition Apple Cider vinegar gummies as they contain health-promoting probiotics and enzymes. For skin support, Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides and Creamers are great for hair, skin and nail health and growth. Additionally, Life-flo pure magnesium flakes relax and rejuvenate the body while Life-flo coconut oil spray moisturizes and replenishes the skin. We also recommend Heritage Store Organic Castor Oil as it also soothes and relaxes.

By focusing on a healthy diet, quality sleep, and taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical health, you will likely observe other aspects of your life improving as well. Cheers to a new year!

Benzler Farms

The Biggest little farm in Fresno

The Benzler Family Farm has been farming organically since 1952- way before organic was even a thing! Bertha and Jack Benzler bought the homestead with the intention of farming “naturally”, meaning no chemicals and no synthetic fertilizer- in Bertha Benzler’s words, “Just how God intended us to farm.”

The farm’s focus was on Table Grapes, Raisins, Persimmons, and Tree Fruits. In 1954 the Benzlers bought their first 40 acres of Old-Line Washington navels. Today, we call them Heirloom Navels. Over the years, the Benzlers added 20 acres here and 40 acres there as small family farms around them couldn’t make money farming any longer and needed to sell and move to the city. Over time, the Benzler Family Farm has grown up to 630 acres, combining organic table grapes and citrus.

Today the farm is focused solely on citrus, growing the core commodities: navel oranges, lemons, mandarins and grapefruit. Not to mention newly-planted tasty varieties such as melo golds, cocktail grapefruit, kumquats, and more mandarins.

The family knows quality and flavor are everything, and that producing both takes time and effort. That’s why all the farm workers live on the ranch, work on the ranch, and tend to it like it’s their own. The Benzlers do it old school and the time and effort shows in the end.

This season, Benzler Family Farm is providing Mother’s with delicious citrus. We are excited to partner with a farm that cares as much about quality and taste as we do.

Upper Loveland Ranch- Where unique meets quality

In 2007, Ed Nejad purchased a 16 acre property off Ortega Highway that only had a few fruit trees and a home. He never anticipated that ten years later, he would end up manifesting the land to become a fruit, berries, nuts and flower orchard, now known as Upper Loveland Ranch. Ed dedicated himself to creating an orchard outside of his full-time business that would provide homegrown style, truly organic and unique food. He feels that it is important to spend the time to determine how to maintain sustainability so that what comes our of the ground can provide for the growth of a crop.

What started as a few trees has turned into a ranch with over 3000+ trees over the past 10 years. Ed’s main crops are pomegranates, mulberries, stone fruits, figs, and protea flowers. The key to his success? Ed says that one sure ingredient that brings positive results for his farm and his family is “love”- sharing it all year round, no exceptions! He hopes to continue to provide good and honest food to the locals and loved ones.

Upper Loveland Ranch is sourcing Mother’s with its wonderful variety of Pom Arils. Pom arils are the seed pods inside the pomegranate, which have a red and clear fruit that surrounds a tiny seed, all of which is edible. Mother’s loves partnering with local vendors, and we are excited to be working with Upper Loveland Ranch!

Mind & Body- Benefits of a daily cold plunge

We all have our ways of waking ourselves up- a cup of coffee, double shots of ginger, a quick workout, and so on. However, if you’re looking for another option to quick-start your morning or to provide a midday boost, cold plunging might be the answer. Many people have turned too cold plunging when looking for a new way to boost their daily energy! Plus a daily cold plunge can have many other benefits such as assisting with recovery in supporting your immune system.

Cold plunge benefits extend beyond the mental and chemical aspects of your body too. Sports medicine has utilized cold water therapy for years to help the active recovery of your muscles. Being immersed in cold water stimulates leukocytes, the white blood cells that help fight off sicknesses. It also causes the lymphatic system to contract, forcing fluid through the lymph nodes. This process aids in detoxing the body and strengthening your immune system. Cold plunging has also shown the ability to increase your baseline dopamine. Dopamine is the molecule in our brains and bodies that is linked to motivation. Researchers have long been aware that dopamine connects to our daily energy. In particular, there is a lot of evidence that hormone imbalance can contribute to depression, meaning that a cold plunge might help to reduce depression and improve overall mood! Don’t take our word for it though, just ask anyone who has ever plunged! The boost in norepinephrine you’ll get from consistent ice baths has been shown to be up to five times. This neurotransmitter can dramatically reduce inflammation and help with chronic pain.

Cold water therapy has also been shown to be an effective supplemental treatment for stress relief through decreasing the stress hormone cortisol. Regular cold showers and ice baths helped reduce anxiety and improved the moods of participants. While the cold is abrasive and jarring at first, once you settle in, you get used to it and all the benefits.

Hearty and healthy- Stuffed Peppers

Stuffed peppers are a great recipe to make on a cold January night. This hearty and healthy meal will be a favorite of everyone at your table. Make it colorful by mixing and matching your bell peppers!

Ingredients:

1 cup cold water

1/2 cup uncooked long grain white rice

1 tablespoon Mother’s organic extra virgin olive oil

1 lb Mother’s organic ground beef

6 medium organic bell peppers (green, red, yellow, orange or a mix of them for some color)

16 oz tomato sauce, divided

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 tsp onion powder

Salt and ground black pepper to taste

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350° F

Bring water and rice to a boil in a covered saucepan (2 to 1 rice to water). Reduce heat to low and simmer until rice is tender, about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat Mother’s olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add Mother’s Organic ground beef and cook until evenly browned and crumbly, about 8 minutes.

Hollow out bell peppers by removing and discarding the tops, seeds, and membranes. You may need to slice the bottoms of the peppers if necessary to make sure they stand up straight (be careful not to cut a hole in the bottom!)

Arrange peppers in a baking dish with the hollowed sides facing upward.

Prepare filling by mixing cooked beef, cooked rice, half of the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Spoon an equal amount of filling into each hollowed pepper.

Mix remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning in a bowl, and pour over the stuffed peppers.

Bake in the preheated oven, until peppers are tender, about 1 hour.

Skin care tip – Why rosewater makes you feel so good

Heritage Store’s cult- favorite rose water was developed in 1969. Since its launch, the brand’s rosewater developed a true fan base who are obsessed with the plentiful benefits of the soothing, refreshing, and clean rose water formula. But where did rose water first originate? What are the benefits? And why does rose water feel so good?

The history of rose water

Rosewater has a rich history of helping enhance the lives of people around the world and has been celebrated for ages for its hydrating and soothing benefits. However, many still wonder how rose water truly works and where it first originated. Rosewater was the first perfume listed in the Canon of Medicine, sometime between the 9th and 10th century AD. A popular product, rosewater has been used in the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia long before it spread worldwide. There was even a story that circled around of an alchemist in the 1300s who created a tonic for the aging Queen of Hungary to restore her youthfulness. Throughout millenia, rose water extracts have helped people mourn and celebrate, feel grateful and beloved, and even feel graceful.

How Rosewater Works

Rosewater is sourced from Damask roses grown in Europe and Asia. It’s created by the steam distillation of fresh Rosa damascena rose petals when extracting rose essential oil, which produces an aqueous extract. This extract is rose water in its simplest form and contains significant biologically active substances including polyphenols and polysaccharides, such as quercetin, rutin, and kaempferol. Damask rose extracts are great for skin and the classic aroma imparts a sense of peace, love and relaxation.

The importance of hydration

Staying hydrated is one of the most common health and beauty tips that actually holds a whole lot of truth. Drinking enough water is essential for good overall health. When it comes to skincare, hydration is important for many reasons. Just how drinking water nourishes your insides, keeping your skin hydrated nourishes your largest organ. Maintaining the top layer of your skin’s moisture means it is stronger – and can better keep irritants at bay. Skin hydration also helps keep your skin looking youthful – glowy, plumper-looking, with a reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hydration is the key to looking and feeling your best from the inside out.

Here are just three of Heritage store’s hydration staples to help hydrate and soothe skin while keeping it protected.

Rosewater: this classic facial Mist contains two classic ingredients, damask rose and Vor-Mag ™ water. Together they offer versatility to refresh, set, hydrate, and uplift. Damask Rose soothes and softens skin, while Vor-Mag™ water is vortexed and magnetized, creating a transcendent experience for all.

Rosewater and glycerin: Like the classic rose water but with an extra boost of hydration. Glycerin is an amazing ingredient for hydration because it works to lock in moisture and get your skin looking glowy and radiant.

Rosewater toner: Ideal for dry skin types, this toner is specifically designed to hydrate skin and help absorb the rest of the skin care rituals. It has hyaluronic acid to help keep skin from over-drying. The gentle ingredients work to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while offering deeper hydration for a youthful glow.

The Benefits of Rosewater

Rosewater is kind to skin and has amazing hydrating and mood-inspiring benefits. When all the benefits combine, it reveals why Rosewater truly makes people feel so good.

Hydrates Skin & hair: rosewater is a hydrator and can be used to give skin and hair the refreshing pick-me-up it’s craving. Spraying rosewater on the skin helps moisturize and revitalize the skin, leaving it feeling soft. Rosewater is also an astringent, which can help reduce oiliness.

Calms skin: rosewater may help calm skin and is ideal for sensitive or problematic skin. The rose petals found in rosewater contain a handful of antioxidants and can provide nutrients that the skin craves

Promotes relaxation: aromatherapy, anyone? The scent of roses has been known to have a relaxing effect. Just spritzing some rosewater on the bed or pillows helps bring feelings of calm and relaxation

Refreshes energy: in addition to refreshing the skin, rosewater canhelp any physical space feel refreshed and energized. It can also help the mind feel re-energized. Rosewater is believed to have strong spiritual properties that can clear out negative energy

Supports positivity: the scent of roses is often used in aromatherapy to give a positive boost. Rose petals carry a cooling nature, which can help support a balanced mind and heart. Rosewater can also act as an anti-aging treatment. When applied topically, rosewater can help to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Fresh skin, diminished appearance of wrinkles, and relaxation is a recipe for positivity.

Time to treat yourself: no matter your age, gender, skin type or whatever- rosewater is a must-have for any self-care beauty rituals.

How to create rosewater rituals

Rosewater has been used across the world for many rituals- to celebrate life, to mourn loved ones, to relax after a long day, and to hydrate and soothe skin. Creating rituals that center on feeling good can be difficult when life pulls you in many different directions. Here are some ways to incorporate rosewater into daily rituals.

First thing in the morning, use the rosewater toner after cleansing your skin to hydrate, refresh and prep your skin for the rest of your skincare rituals

During a study break, use the rosewater mist to relax and recharge the mind

After a sweat sesh, use the rosewater mist to spritz and cool down the skin

Before a date, use the rosewater glycerin spray to hydrate for glowy, radiant skin

While meditating, spray some rosewater mist in the space to help uplift the soul

There are many ways to incorporate rosewater into everyday rituals that enhance and uplight both mind and body. Rosewater is a beautiful, versatile way to enhance your daily life and care for yourself. And sometimes, taking a little bit of time for self-care rituals can be the difference to ending your day on a positive note.

The Heritage Story

Heritage Store was born in 1969, an era known for its good vibes. The founder, Tom Johnson, gave up his corporate life to seek deeper meaning. Passionate about the concept of the mind-body connection, he opened a wellness shop and called it the Heritage Store.

The store soon became a special space devoted to positive energy and community; – it was even where the brand’s much loved rosewater was created. A lot has changed in the past 50 years, but they still celebrate minimal-ingredient products that are good for people and the planet.

Olipop- a new kind of soda

Olipop combines the classic soda flavor you know and love with prebiotics, plant fiber, and botanicals to support your microbiome and digestive health. 2-5g of sugar per can, non-gmo, 9g of fiber per can. @Drinkolipop drinkolipop.com

Vital Proteins- marine collagen and collagen peptides. Wellness is vital. 1 simple ingredient, made without gluten or dairy, skin, hair and nail support, healthy joints and bones.

Relax and unwind- Benefits of taking magnesium for better sleep

While many use melatonin to aid with insomnia, a recent trend shows more and more people are turning to magnesium to help improve their sleep. Lack of sleep or poor sleep can impact your mood, productivity, mental acuity, and more.

Magnesium is an essential mineral and nutrient that the body needs to stay healthy. While the amount of magnesium a person needs depends on their age or sex, magnesium helps many processes in the body such as making protein and regulating blood sugar levels and muscle function. Magnesium is found naturally in many foods such as nuts, seeds, leafy green vegetables, and more. However, it is also available in supplement form and people take it for various reasons, one of which is to assist with sleep.

W. Chris Winter, MD, author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep is Broken and How to Fix It, says that there is evidence to support that magnesium does in fact help you sleep better. This is because it can support the body in controlling its GABA level, which is a neurotransmitter that “turns off” wakefulness. Moreover, magnesium can help convert protein into chemicals that make you feel sleepy and can assist with muscle and nerve function.

Oca- Tudo Bem! (It’s all good). Plant-based energy drink powered by cassava root

Jarrow Formulas- New! One of the body’s most important antioxidant and detoxification agents. Jarrow Formulas N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) is a powerful antioxidant amino acid and a precursor in the body to the critical antioxidant glutathione. Glutathione is essential for the immune system’s proper functioning, is vital in maintaining healthy tissue, and supports liver function.

Let’s Talk Protein – WHEY VS. PLANT-BASED PROTEIN – WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Most people know that protein fuels muscles and helps their bodies function. From beef to eggs to vegan-friendly tofu, protein choices are not hard to come by. But sometimes grilling up a steak or whipping up a vegan protein-packed stir fry isn’t convenient, as life can get busy.Protein powders are a lifesaver for busy people who are living a healthy lifestyle. They make getting enough of this essential macronutrient incredibly simple – just add a scoop to a smoothie or mix with water or juice. But choosing the right protein can be overwhelming.

There’s whey, soy, pea, rice and more. To help make the decision easier, here’s a breakdown of the differences between whey protein and plant- based proteins.

Protein Basics

Before exploring which protein powder is the best choice, it’s important to understand what protein actually is. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. And of the twenty amino acids that exist, nine are essential—meaning that the body needs them to function — but it can’t make them. Therefore, it is essential to eat enough of these 9 amino acids.

Proteins are involved in numerous functions in the body, including repair, maintenance, and growth of tissues. Plus, this nutrient plays a role in the proper functioning of hormones, enzymes, and the immune system.

Protein is an extremely important nutrient to consume in adequate amounts.

How much protein do you need?

How much protein a person needs depends on a few factors including age, height, gender, training regimen and fitness and weight goals.

Both men and women will need at least 0.8 grams of protein per 2 pounds of body weight each day. Adult men, at a minimum, require 56 grams of protein per day. If someone starts increasing the intensity of their workouts to build muscle, they should aim for 1 gram per 2 pounds of body weight. If they are lifting heavy weights and training 3 or more days a week with a primary goal of gaining muscle, they will need more. Increasing to 1.5 grams per 2 pounds of body weight is safe to start.

Using those ranges, here are a few examples:

• A 150-pound female that takes Pilates classes, walks the dog, and plays tennis (moderately active) will want to aim for at least 60 grams of protein per day.

• That same 150-pound woman who starts a weightlifting class twice a week will want to increase to 75 grams per day.

• A 185-pound man that plays golf and coaches youth soccer (light activity) will need 75 grams per day.

• A 175-pound man that lifts weights three days a week and plays basketball twice a week will need 90 grams a day.

To meet these needs, it’s important to pay attention to the types of food one is eating, as well as the portion sizes of these foods.

A 3-ounce serving of beef or chicken will fuel the body with around 22 grams of protein, while a 3-ounce serving of tofu will give you 7 grams of this key macronutrient.

Other sources of protein include walnuts (4 grams of protein per 14 halves), milk (8 grams per 1 cup), fish (20 grams per 3-ounce serving), and eggs (6 grams per 1 large egg).

Do I need a Protein Powder?

There are many reasons to consider adding a protein supplement to your meal plan.

• You’re not seeing the results you want: Maybe you’ve increased the intensity of your workouts, or maybe you’re busier than usual and struggling with food prep.

• You’re ramping up your exercise routine: If you add weight lifting to build muscle and improve your metabolism, or you’re adding a H.I.I.T. workout class three days a week, you’ll need extra protein.

• You’re busy: Maybe you’re traveling more, running the kids all across town, or maybe you’re sick of all of the grocery shopping and food prep—protein powders are super convenient.

• You’re tired of weighing and measuring your food: No doubt this can get old, and sometimes we all need a hiatus.

• It’s quick to prepare and easy to digest: A high-quality protein powder is not only easy to shake up with water or unsweetened almond milk, but it will also be easy to absorb and digest.

Whey Vs. Plant-Based Protein Powder – What Is The Difference?

Two of the most popular protein powder options are whey and plant-based. Whey-based protein powders utilize the whey protein that is obtained from cow’s milk. Many people opt for a whey-based — or any animal source-based — protein powder because these are a complete protein, meaning they contain all of the essential amino acids the body needs. Whey protein digests quickly and is well utilized by the body.

Plant-based proteins can come from sources like soy, peas, brown rice, and hemp, and they are a perfect option for people who are following a plant-based, vegan, or vegetarian diet or who do not tolerate milk-based protein powder choices. Unfortunately, while many plant-based proteins are chock- full of antioxidants and other good-for-you nutrients, many varieties are not a complete protein and are missing some essential amino acids. Also, plant-based protein powders are oftentimes not as efficiently digested as options like whey, casein, and egg.

For those opting for a plant-based protein powder choice, leaning on an option that contains all of the essential amino acids, is fermented to promote digestibility, and contains zero grams of sugar is key.

Zhou Nutrition’s Plant Complete Vegan Protein checks all of these boxes, making it an optimal plant-based protein powder choice for people who want to put the best ingredients in their bodies.

Instead of only including one protein source, this powder includes a blend of both pea and rice protein, resulting in a complete amino acid profile. The blend is fermented with shiitake mushroom mycelia to improve digestibility and result in a product that has the equivalent digestibility of whey protein (but with no animal products included!). Zhou Nutrition’s Plant Complete is also soy- free.

Plus, thanks to this fermentation process, the protein powder has a smooth texture, making it a natural addition to a slew of recipes that can use a protein boost – from smoothies to baked goods.

For those looking for a protein powder that has a PDCAAS of 1 (the best digestibility score a protein can receive), blends well with many recipes, has zero sugar, and is a complete plant-based protein, including Zhou Nutrition’s Plant Complete Protein Powder can help support your health goals in a convenient and delicious way.

About Zhou Nutrition

As runners, yogis, athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, every day the team at Zhou Nutrition strives to reach their full potential. They’ve always known that science-backed supplements would help us fuel our bodies and minds, but they didn’t always know where to find high-quality options. In their search, they came across brands that either used low-quality ingredients or that didn’t meet their specific needs.

Eventually, they said enough was enough—they’d make them.

They started by looking outside the lab and towards nature to find the world’s greatest sources of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Combining nature’s nutrients with science-backed formulas, they created their first line of clean, effective supplements that were tailored to their unique needs. At the crossroads of Eastern herbal tradition and modern science, Zhou Nutrition was born.

Recharge and Rejuvenate – Tips for Sleeping Better

We spend the majority of our lives asleep. Sleep helps us recharge and rejuvenate our bodies, and poor sleep can impact our recovery as well as negatively impact the day ahead. Try some of these tips to get a better night’s sleep.

Remove devices – Limiting use of electronics like your phone, TV, or computer can help you fall asleep faster. The lights from these devices can keep you up and make it harder to fall asleep. Try implementing a specific time each evening to put your electronics (including your cell phone!) away as a best practice. Designate a spot for them to create a routine.

Set a schedule – Training your body to sleep better when it is time to go to bed can be a key factor in better sleep. Just like learning a new skill, repetition is essential. By going to bed around the same time every night, your body will naturally start to learn that it is ready for a recharge.

Eat & Exercise – A healthy diet can be beneficial for a better night’s rest, as the body is not working as hard to break down unhealthy food and can focus on sleeping. Meanwhile, exercising regularly can help your sleep quality- just make sure to schedule your workouts early enough so the produced adrenaline doesn’t impact your bedtime.

There’s a Difference – Why Organic Produce is Better

It’s well known that fruits and vegetables are important for our health. But why buy and eat organic fruits and vegetables? There are plenty of reasons to make the choice to eat organic produce.

Organic farming methods ensure that there are no synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, synthetic pesticides, radiation (irradiation) or genetic technology used. Conventional farming methods use non-organic methods to control disease and pests while producing a larger harvest but these methods can have negative effects on our bodies and the environment.

Eating organic not only eliminates potentially dangerous pesticides and toxic chemicals from entering in our bodies but when organic practices are in place, the soil and water quality are improved, pollution is reduced, and land becomes a safe and healthy place for farm animals to live on. Furthermore, the practices promote a self-sustaining cycle of resources on a farm.

Year-Round – Tips for Boosting Your Mental Health

Anyone can struggle with mental health. We at Mother’s want to share some tips for you to help boost your mental health any time of year.

Stay active – Grab your bike and take a ride around the Back Bay in Newport, head outside for a walk around your neighborhood or on the beach, or hit the gym. Staying active not only helps your mental health, but also your emotional health as well. It can also relieve stress and aid with better sleep.

Eat a brain-healthy diet – Mother’s is a great place to find organic leafy greens (kale, spinach, chard, and more), organic berries (try our organic cut fruit!), and organic nuts (such as the new Mother’s Organic Walnuts in our bulk section). Add some of these foods into your diet to keep your brain healthy and boost your mental health

Sleep – Getting a good night’s sleep helps reset your body. Sleep helps the body rejuvenate and recharge after the day. To help fall asleep faster and stay asleep, stay off your screens (phone, TV, computer) and try reading or listening to relaxing music instead.

Get Caffeinated – How to Bulletproof Your Coffee Cup

There are a lot of good coffee options and keto-friendly supplements out there, but when it comes to having top-of-the-line, high-quality products, Bulletproof is the cream of the crop. Bulletproof creates high-quality products with the right nutrients to help you feel and perform your best. Our coffee beans are expertly roasted, sustainably sourced and tested for toxins to ensure a clean, flavorful cup of coffee every time. Plus, we have a wide offering of add-ins like restorative collagen protein and energizing MCT oil, which is loaded with quality fats.† Read on to find out what clean coffee is, the benefits of MCT oil and if you can put collagen in coffee.

What is clean coffee?

If you’re like most, the first thought that’s likely to come to mind when you hear ‘clean coffee’ is, “what is clean coffee, exactly?” No, it doesn’t mean we’re hand-polishing every single bean (although, that would be quite impressive). Clean coffee is coffee that has been tested for toxins to ensure the effective mitigation of mycotoxins (a toxic fungi found in certain foods that are grown in warmer climates). At Bulletproof, we take the creation of our products seriously, meaning we don’t make any compromises – ever. From source to sip, we keep things clean. To start, we establish relationships with small farms in Colombia, El Salvador and Guatemala where our coffee cherries are hand- picked and further separated to result in only ripe, intact cherries.

Once picked, our farms take further steps to reduce microbiological contamination. Then, they’re tested for toxins to ensure they’re clean. If they pass the test, they’re blended and roasted to our carefully defined parameters. After that, it’s “cupped” by experts who score for a variety of attributes, including fragrance/aroma, flavor, acidity, body, uniformity and clean cup (our our stringent cupping scores guarantee Specialty Grade coffee—every time). When that’s all done, they are brewed into the premium, flavorful coffee that lives in your cup.

To top things off, Bulletproof sources coffee beans from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. That means the beans have been harvested and produced in a more sustainable way, with part of the profits going back into helping our partnered farming communities.

*Bulletproof Original Ground Coffee, Mentalist Whole Bean Coffee, Unflavored Collagen Protein, Vanilla Collagen Protein and Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil can all be found at Mothers Market. To find and try other high-quality products, visit Bulletproof.com.

Our roasts

Bulletproof Coffee comes in grounds, whole beans and single-serve pods, and is available in four different roasts:

• The Original: This signature medium roast features distinct notes of cinnamon, plum and orange with a cocoa-hazelnut finish. (We also produce The Original Decaf using the Swiss Water Method® for chemical-free decaffeination—for those who cannot tolerate or do not want to consume caffeine.)*

• The Mentalist: This medium-dark roast has a full-bodied flavor with notes of cherry, almond and caramel.* • Breakfast Blend: This light roast hosts vibrant notes of milk chocolate, orange, berry and citrus.

• French Kick: This dark roast offers a smooth, medium-bodied flavor with a smoky-chocolate aroma.

What to add to your clean coffee

Our clean coffee is great on its own, but there are plenty of add-ins you can mix into your cup that will make it even better.

In fact, the Bulletproof Coffee recipe is what made us famous. To make a cup, simply brew your favorite roast, add in grass-fed ghee or butter and MCT oil, then blend or froth. The result: a creamy, frothy latte that’s filled with benefits.

Bulletproof Coffee is brimming with quality fats, which provide you with sustained energy and keep you feeling satiated, alert and focused.† It’s perfect for various diets, including paleo, low-carb and keto. Bulletproof Coffee is also a great way to break an intermittent fast.

The benefits of MCT oil

MCT oil isn’t just an ingredient in Bulletproof Coffee—it’s a quality fat that your body turns into energizing, fat-burning ketones.† MCT, or medium chain triglycerides, are a type of medium chain fatty acid naturally found in coconut oil. Unfortunately, they’re largely missing from the typical Western diet. The benefits of MCT oil include sustained energy, weight management and fewer cravings.†

Bulletproof’s Brain Octane C8 MCT Oil is unlike other MCTs on the market. It’s made with C8 caprylic acid, which is the most ketogenic (produces the most ketones) of the MCTS. It produces four times more ketones than coconut oil, which means more ketone benefits like amplified energy and metabolic burn.†

Can you put collagen in coffee?

Collagen protein provides the building blocks for healthy hair, nails, skin, joints, bones and muscles.† But does collagen have a home in your morning mug? The answer is yes! Bulletproof Collagen Protein dissolves easily in hot or cold drinks and comes in Unflavored, Vanilla and Chocolate. If you’re looking for extra benefits, you can also add Gut Health (for microbiome support) or Energy Collagen Protein (with a custom blend of adaptogens) to your cup of joe.†*

All of the Collagen Proteins offered by Bulletproof are grass-fed. That means our collagen is sourced from pasture-raised cows, and you know what they say, happy cows lead to happy Bulletproof Collagen Protein users. Okay, we’ll admit, no one says that, but it’s true!

Now, who’s ready to brew, froth and sip their way to better days?

Bulletproof

In 2011, Bulletproof founder Dave Asprey introduced Bulletproof Coffee: a blend of coffee, MCT oil and grass-fed butter. It embraced quality fats for sustained energy and challenged nutrition norms. Taking charge of your health starts with taking care of how you feel. That’s why Bulletproof creates products that power your mind, fuel your body and help you discover what better feels like. They provide clean coffee, supplements with science-backed ingredients, body-supporting collagen and better-for-you snacks made with carefully selected ingredients.
